Tony, Matt and "mystery man" I love you all! :)
Key things I want to know
1) Will there be an appeal and if so how confident are you of success?
2) Will there be a new management team?
3) Will Matt be football board chairman or a different role?
4) Is there any chance the group of four may come back together or other people join the party and invest?
5) Any chance of getting Mr Strachan back? :D
6) Any chance of us beating Portsmouth to getting a place on the World Cup 2018 bid?
Dear All
I have been contacted by a large number of people that use this forum given our entering into an exclusivity period for the purchase of Southampton Leisure Holdings (which to the man on the street and pretty much all supporters relates the Club itself).
One of the Administrators from this site, Rob, has asked me to do a short session where you may pose questions to me concerning our impending takeover. I will be more than happy to oblidge, in due course.
I will however in the meantime offer you a few words of comfort. You will no doubt have seen various articles in news papers, news clips etc. I was originally asked by a group of 4 very wealthy business people to become involved with their proposed takeover of SFC. I politely declined their offer of 'employment' since I just knew that because this was such a public matter, my own life for a short period of time would enter into the media circus. As many of you who know me personally will know, I am far from a shy retiring character, but equally I don't enjoy people phoning me up asking my business, or shoving cameras outside of my office, or even home. The more harsh of you could perhaps joke that I "have a face for radio"!
In the end, the group/consortium changed my mind, and to be honest I am now quite glad that they did. Part of what changed my mind was a chat over a coffee with Matt (Le Tissier), where I could see the pure passion and belief that we could make this a success, with the right backing. What followed was a crazy few weeks of working 24/7, by myself and numerous others. That work was geared at arriving to the point that my client was willing to make an offer - not just to buy the club (that's the easy part), but to buy into the concept of sustained investment over the medium-long term to make this great club a success. When I projected the sheer cost of this, a couple of the guys were a little less willing to throw cheques at me. Ultimately I have in fact now entered into this "exclusivity agreement" on behalf of ONE client only. And myself, Matt and others involved are very pleased with that. Gone are the days of petty squabbles. Our one client has SUBSTANTIAL wealth - several hundred million. Irrespective of this however, I am looking at this as a business which can stand on its two feet. But we have the comfort of knowing that if myself/Matt/colleagues make a recommendation for investment (be this for players/staff whatever), it will be catered for.
Matt will have a pivotal role at the club - and I would urge you all to never under estimate this mans ability. You all know of his amazing skills as a footballer. As a friend of his for a number of years, I also know the other side of Matt, and believe me, he has a very wise head on those shoulders.
We now have 20 days (the clock started ticking yesterday) to get down to the serious business. We'll let the legal people do what they have to for the delisting process of the PLC, transferring of assets to the new holding company, repayment of debt to creditors, and handing over of title to me (on behalf of my client). Meanwhile, Matt and myself and colleagues will be formalising football matters. I'll rely more on their knowledge of the beautiful game, and they'll rely on me to get our client to fund their plans. Its quite simple. This is now a time for unity, and I really do hope that I get all of your support, and the support of the wider community to make this club great again. I will stop at nothing to make this happen guys - but I need bums on seats AND support to achieve this. Together, we can have a club to be proud of once more (and there's me a boyhood Liverpool fan saying that!).
You will understand that I will not have the time to be a regular visitor to this forum, but I wish you all the best. Its a nice day out there, so take your kids out to play, or the missus down to the beach......... or of course make some excuse to have a pint at 3pm and enjoy the FA Cup Final. Whatever takes your fancy, have a nice weekend.
Best wishes
Tony Lynam

Key things I want to know
1) How much of these hundreds of millions will be put in (unlikely to find out I know)
Reading between the lines it doesn't sound like this owner will be pumping tens of millions into the team, but is prepared for a bit of investment to get us going at first?
I'm more than happy with that.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post Tony - it has given me a massive boost, and I am sure all other forum users. Naturally we are delighted that our club has been saved, but to know that there is long term financial backing is the icing on the cake - we can once again start to move onwards and upwards and ultimately take our rightful place in the top division. Thank you to you, and your colleagues, for making this happen (subject to a successful next 20 days naturally!).
It is also fantastic to have Matt involved - he is the one person who can really unite this club, which has been tearing itself apart for several years. Please do not have any doubt whatsoever our fan base is ready to support the new board, and I am confident you will have people renewing or taking up season tickets in great numbers so that we can back the club and get out of League 1 at the earliest possible opportunity.
Enjoy a beer or two during the cup final, I know I will now!!!

I agree I don't think we will be recieving hundreds of million to spend, but I would rather have a club that earns its success with a committed following team and board than one that is an arab/russian billionaires plaything, so they can show off to their rich mates.
If I wanted to follow a massively rich team then I would but I would rather support the same club as my entire family, and one that can make me proud to call myself a supporter and not just be a sheep following one of the big 4
good luck to whoever the finacial back is and to Lynam and Le Tis

Granted, from the depths of despair anything will look like up, but this looks like a group that is getting ready for the long haul back up and to new heights. And by god we need investors that are willing to spend wisely over a long period rather than a one-off huge economical boost...
Interesting, interesting! :)

What great news. Id like to buy that man a drink.
Questions to Mr Lynam:
Money-
Does the company start with a clean slate I.E we are not still £30m+ in debt but to different people?
Has this been financed in a similar way to Man Utd etc where the funds are financed against assets of the club?
Barclays and Aviva have all been paid off and we will be banking with another bank hence forth?
Am i correct in saying that SLH & SFC will no longer be listed companies and that we will have an owner instead of numerous share holders?
If so where does that leave fans that are shareholders?
Personel-
Any views on the managment team?
Any views on the renewal of players contracts?
Will existing board members be replaced?
General-
When will season tickets go on sale?
When will ticket prices be released?
New Kit for a new start?
Will there be an appeal against the 10pt deduction?

Those shares are worthless now, so it would leave those fans with nothing at all (except a club to support).

Thanks for taking the time to inform us of the goings on i think we all appreciate it.

In lieu of the points deduction i think we need to strengthen in the summer within reason to overcome this. If come january we are in with a shout of the play-offs/automatic promotion then perhaps make a couple more signings to bolster the charge. Good home gates are vital though because if we don't make the effort then you can hardly expect our new owner to spend his money - it's a two way thing.
Finding a new manager is absolutely vital though, but i expect Matt Le Tissier has already sorted this out in private....

Well thanks Mr Lynam to you and your client for getting to this stage. I am not going to go any further and get carried away. As we know where it counts is on the pitch. So with that in mind i would avoid all Q&A requests as its amateurish behaviour. We had that from someone in recent years who stabbed us all in the back. Also avoid any leaking gossip and coming on this forum as well.

I am sure that there is a good reason and all will become clear soon. Meanwhile, I cannot express how much I wish to thank you for your efforts to save our club and give us all hope. I cannot celebrate fully until the deal is done, because there have been so many false dawns and disappointments over the years but will "give it large" when it actully happens!

Thank you for those words Mr Lynam and for all the hard work you and your team have put in to keep sfc alive.
It is obvious that already your future plans are re-uniting a long divided fan base by the inclusion of our legend MLT and the fact that we will have just one owner.
I would also like to give my thanks to Leon Crouch who kept the wolves from the doors and enabled your bid to progress and hopefully conclude. A true saint!
Finally, can I wish the new owner in waiting all the best for the future. After suffering many years of division and heartbreak as fans of sfc I think you will find that he will be welcome with open arms.

Let's be fair - he said absolutely nothing concrete at all in several paragraphs, apart from a lot of patting on the back for himself.
To you, that might be excellent communication but to me it is anything but.
He cant say too much at the moment but the letter gives some idea whats going on.I dont get the "patting himself on the back" thing at all. He sounds quite pleased but why not ?

Great but does that mean Askham and alll the others who have divided us. Iam hoping for a complete sweep and none of the people who have brought us to this still to be involved.
So is you finally jumping ship, just so as I know. IMHO Leon Crouch should have a place on the board, if so invited. The club would of folded before now without this fan, using his own money to keep us afloat.

No! Although Crouch has been brilliant in helping us he must never be allowed in a position of power, nor should anyone who has previously been on the board in the past 10 years. It is the last thing we need, he should be rewarded and thanked but not given a place on the board!

Our one client has SUBSTANTIAL wealth - several hundred million. Irrespective of this however, I am looking at this as a business which can stand on its two feet.
doesn't sound as if your reading between the lines will be the case :D[/quote]
This bit seemed to be suggesting that money is not going to be thrown at the club. We will have to live within our means and not run at a loss which we have been doing since relegation from the premiership.
To stand on our own two feet means we will have to get wages to a percentage of turnover to break even, thus getting rid of the high earners.
This is something that had Michael Wilde stated in his manifesto, it might have sat more comfortably with many.
So far so good Tony, now all thats needed is to have our 10 points back.

Yes we'll absoultely have to live within our means and to be honest I'm personally happy with rather than the potential situation of no club at all.
That said, living within our means may not be so much of an issue for us with no millstone of a mortgage :-)

Perhaps the fact the new incumbant is a fan like us irks you. I for one welcome the fact it doesn't appear a suit with an agenda is at the helm. Fans ask for transparancy and passion, someone offers that and there are still detractors. What about a little gratitude for someone who is working at giving you something you have been desperately looking for?
One major difference here from the Wilde dabacle as well, he played a shady game of using the forum to garner support before he got in, not after.

I really hope, like my message a couple of weeks back, we can all once more unite again.
With Matt in any role, we can. I know a few of you on here actually doubt his credentials but this would be no Shearer fiasco - Matt isn't a gob****e, he knows his stuff - any of you who watch Sky Sports will agree he is probably the most articulate pundit on there. Shearer, well... he was a boring and dumb pundit and that transferred to his brief management stint. Believe me, Matt's 'got it', Shearer hasn't. And please, I don't want to hear Paul Ince's name mentioned again, either. Bluuuurgh, gob****e...
Still, I'd settle for WGS seeing as we are all in dreamland atm :-)

Just a thought, if the new investor has settled the debt, does that mean it will be like a family paying off the mortgage and all the income can be spent elsewhere. The match income can then be spent on the clubs' progress rather than paying back loans and interest. So, say for a £15m payment the season ticket money can go to finance the wages of above average players for the 3rd tier (still cant call it league 1, will always be 3rd division).

Wonderful news! I wasn't really worried. ;) In my opinion, anyone who has enough faith in the future of our club and us supporters to put up serious cash can post messages wherever and whenever they want. The last few seasons have been pretty depressing but at last I feel that we have turned a corner. My grateful thanks go to all those who have worked so hard to pull this off. Roll on next season! When can I renew my season tickets?

Seeing as we are all weirdos perhaps you'd like to log off? Or perhaps identify yourself at SMS at the first home game? Thought not.
Quite frankly, a lot of us made mistakes with Wilde but after the 3 years that had preceded it, we were a bit vulnerable after Mike had become the largest shareholder. This is totally different and this group have to go through hoops that Mike Wilde wouldn't have got through. Actually, Secure Retirement probably wouldn't have got through them in 1996 either and Askham's retirement wouldn't have been quite so gold-plated at our expense.

I presume you'd rather have Marc Jackson and Green take over then? Extinction would have preferable to that, if you've seen the posts that were on here in summer 2007 you'll know exactly the incredible Walter Mitty tendancies we witnessed and Bournemouth fans saw straight through him as well.
If this consortium hadn't taken things to this stage, this forum full of weirdos as you put it would have been rather irrelevant as there would be no football club.

Great read, fantastic news :) As mentioned by many Le God being involved is fantastic, the guy is one of very few footballers over the last few decades who is very articulate and intelligent (bit like Niall Quinn in that respect), not to mention was one of the greatest players the UK has ever seen! His involvement as chairman or director of football will/would be awesome and can only be seen as a plus.
I would love to see Tisdale brought in as manager, a Saint through and through, who has earnt himself the praise he deserves at Bath and Exeter, and would be nice to see him backed up by coaches like Michael Svensson and Frannie Benali, all Saints through and through would please me more than words. Its these kind of people who will return us to former glories, COYR's :)
At the same time, if they have the money and could pull it off the bringing in of a Wee Gordie or a Kevin Keegan would make me wet myself, although in reality i know this is unlikely for many different reasons.
Tony, Matt and Team thank you all so far for all your work, you deserve it :) All i will ask is you complete this deal and bring in a decent manager, and a few decent players and not by spending stupid money, i don't think most if any of us expect or even want that, more a bit of investment as and when its required and the full support and backing to the right manager who deserves their/our support.
If and when this goes through guy's, lets fill St Mary's to the rafters and unite behind them, we are still the major key to the success of this club, lets never forget that, even if the last administration did!

that letter from lynam was exactly what we needed. It's obviously far from being a completed deal, but they're clearly committed to the cause and have plans for the long term, which is exactly what we need as sorting out this club won't be a quick fix.
If there is one man who can unite this city it's Matty and if this all goes through I can see Southampton being a happy place again in the near futuere. who knows League 1 football might be fun for a season or two with Matty in a position of power and this "substantially wealthy businessman" involved.

Erm, how exactly?
If the club wasn't bankrupt and about to go out of existance and Pinnacle didn't have to go through significant hoops, then your stance would be more understandable. This simply isn't comparable with the circumstances of 2006, there are no parachute payments to spunk up the wall. Wilde and Lowe would probably never have got the keys to SMS based on the DD criteria.

Actually, this board has some fairly sharp professional and educated people on it so I would be discourage you from taking that line or you may get embarrassed quite quickly. If you don't think this is the right option for Saints or you are representing other interests, don't take part in the thread - simple. Pinnacle have come up with the goods at this stage, hence we are into the exclusivity element of the process. No PhDs or MPhils required to understand that.

I agree, its a little early to get too excited about all this, but lets be clear this is the most positive news we could have had at this time. I think what is also a very key factor is that the guy/gal has paid 500 grand deposit for an exclusivity deal, in the current climate who on earth would do that without being willing to follow it through? That being said there are no guarantee's in life and none of us should jump the gun, but you can only say that at this stage this looks promising for the future of OUR (the fans) club.

I'll happily join the happy-clappy feeling that permeates most of us on this forum now that we have replaced the charlatans and the PLC.
It's encouraging to see that apart from one or two sourpusses, this optimism is pretty widespread. But if those sourpusses believe that they are far too intelligent for us, or that most of us are weirdos, then perhaps they would be better off on some other forum if they can find one that caters for their special attributes. Personally, I found Mr. Nice's claims to intelligence somewhat lacking in credibility because of his inability to express himself cogently in English. If it isn't his first language, I'll be happy to apologise. ;)

This universal outpouring of joy is pretty amazing. Consider the facts:
1. We have no idea who our owner is.
2. We have no idea who the manager will be.
3. We have no idea who the players will be.
4. We have no idea about whoever has taken us over's short or long term plans.
5. The only communication has been a Mike Wilde-style letter
The takeover isn't even complete, and one has to wonder exactly why it took this long - is the new guy really committed to Saints? He might be, he might not be - I hope it is the former but nobody has any idea.
So why the outpouring of joy? The other bids might easily have been better for the football club and fans, but this one was the best for the creditors. I don't know one way or the other but history has taught us Saints fans that dropping your pants and jumping into bed in delight without knowing the full details is fraught with repercussions down the line.

We know he has handed over £500k
We have never known who the next manager would be
We have never known what players we may have
We in the last 6 years have had no idea of anyones plans for the club

Debt free, I keep seeing this mentioned by various posters. So I need to ask, to what level are we debt free? Does anyone really know, without supposition or do we need to be patient and wait until the deal reaches fruition and we learn about it?
Are we debt free as in, we have paid Barclays off (£4+ million or a %) we have closed the mortgage with a one off payment? We have paid HMRC? When I put 'have' I mean of course that the new owner would do that as part of the deal. Or will we still have a large mortgage (millstone) to fund on L1 income?
I do appreciate that these queries may not be answerable right now, but thanks in anticipation of any guidance!

I know what you are saying "Mr Nice" but tbh there was some real information in TL's statement (ie just one owner, MLT's pivotal role) so I found it enlightening and well worth making. There has been enough rumour, gossip and supposition on here since we went into admin and it is nice to hear something positive from the horse's mouth.
I think many of us learnt a lesson following Wilde's arrival and no one is saying we should not be optimistically cautious here but let's not start throwing the baby out with the bathwater just yet. Already I know of people who have not previously had a ST saying they may well get one now (my Dad for one) after having read TL's words so that can't be a bad thing.

Andy - I am assuming that the price "paid" to acquire the club includes paying off both Barclays and Aviva so in effect we are now debt free. For that we should be grateful but let's not forget the fans no longer own the club or have any rights or say in how it should be run.

or that the deal could be funded by debt which like the Glaziers and Gillette and Hicks e rolled back into the club

I won't necessarily make us debt free in real terms. It will just transfer 'a debt' to the owner. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. A man in debt often works harder than one who isn't!!!!!

Great letter, in plain English, and with sentiment.
1 owner ,means no boardroom squabbles, and with Matt involved finally the passion in the management will be back.
Good times ahead.
Sorry........if there's a boardroom, there will be squabbles, a fact of nature. You only have to look on here to see the proof in that. However, I believe they will all be on the same side, unlike the last few boards we've had....IMO of course.

We know he has handed over £500k
We have never known who the next manager would be
We have never known what players we may have
We in the last 6 years have had no idea of anyones plans for the club
Having one letter is better than the communication in the last year
We basically, as fans, have no choice
WE DO HAVE HOPE AGAIN THOUGH
Some caution is called for surely given that 3 out of the 4 original "investors" dropped out? I'm not sure we would survive if it turned out there was another MW style outfit in control.

Ahh thanks for the note but since it became unable to read for free in April i joined up and the paid to post. If thats all right with you ? I simply do not want this forum to descend into the farce that happened with Wilde. I suspect you dont have the brain to understand that.
Excuse me!!!
This club was almost non-existant, after a downward spiral for years. We now finally appear to be turning the corner. Notes / letters like the one from TL are very welcome after all the carp we have had to suffer from.
Before you make assumptions as to my brain, i suggest you look in the mirror first.
Also, this forum became "unable to read for free" long before April.

Wanting questions for answers is also exactly the same thing Saintsforever did as well with Wilde.
Not surprised its gone over the top of most peoples heads of the weirdos that frequent this forum.

Just a minor point about the "Debt Free" comments on here.
The new club will "technically" have debt - namely one owner will invest money in return for shares in the company.
Before some go off on the "a football club is a charity" type angles, the new owner will expect a return on that investment, and the new management team will expect to receive an income in return for their work in rebuilding the club.
One day the owner may wish to sell his shares, possibly (and hopefully) when we are back in the Premier League to some incredibly wealthy benefactor that allows us to get into the CL.
The point being that in the past there have been too many complaints and comments about what Lowe and others took out, of dividends paid and the rest. The new team will have to take many hard decisions and some fans will not like that and there will always be an undercurrent questioning why xyz earns an 80k+ a year salary in the management team, as much as they will question whether ab or c player is worth their 2k a week.
Tony and his team have 3 weeks to examine the up to date finances of the club and it's contractual obligations. That then needs to be entered into their initial outline business plans. I am sure they will find all those plans are viable.
They must find a way to REVERSE the trend of the past 3 years that have seen this club LOSE around 15million pounds in order to ensure firstly our survival and then our progress. Just cast a thought back to the horrors of last season and the pain when the previous management tried to cut costs. Do we WANT to carry on as before and waste the investors money? Or do we expect them to carry out radical surgery, stabilise the club and then build sensibly and slowly for the future?
They have a hell of a job on their hands, they have stood up and the investor has taken on a hell of a risk.
For that they will be rewarded with salaries, with dividends and hopefully profits for additional investment. That money will come from us fans and now we can give it with a happier heart.
Finally, it is possible that the secured creditors will have accepted a specific cash figure, but at the same time it is quite possible that they may have insisted on what is termend "deferrals" so that by helping to save the club NOW, they would also receive a reward later when the club is more able to pay something to reward their help now.
So as I have said, it is fantastic that the new team are here, that firstly we have a club to support and moan about next season. But, at the end of the day, the next 20 days is actually INCREDIBLY short as they have to sort out the mess and decide what shape the new business will be in from the day they take full control and start building.
Carrying out open heart surgery to save a life is not done in 5 minutes in a car park with a Swiss Army Knife.
It will take time, and it seems we now have a team of motivated and highly skilled surgeons to carry out the operation

why be cautious? we are supporters, we have a future again, who knows how good just yet but why not get excited and look forward?
What is the harm?
If it goes wrong again, it goes wrong - but will it be any worse because you were optimistic now? We are not talking about you investing anything!

Agree with everything but the last line.
All we have to go one as regards their fitness for task is faith.
That's enough for me for now. Becuase it was enough for MLT.
But it's still a waiting game all round to see the colour of the money, the direction of travel and the amount available to invest in the club for real.

It's like a few posters have been stood up at the alter before. Yes there was lessons to be learned from the Wilde episode, but mlt would see that the club is taken good care of. It is sad we have to disect & manipulate what is a positive letter - I think tl deserves a little more faith right now. Like ff says even the most negative should be caustiously optimistic.

Read this last night when Pi**ed so didn't post, re-read this morning & It makes interesting reading & offers hope for the first time in what seems a lifetime. I do feel very optimistic for the future, I temper that with caution as it's not signed sealed & delivered yet. I also urge caution & over-reaction over where we will be in three years. Lets not forget it takes time to build a team & a Squad which is what we need to do, as from what I've seen we have very few players at the club right know as a main core to start the re-building from. hopefully within 3-weeks the Club will pick itself of the floor & start moving forward however long it may take, lets be thankful we have HOPE for the future again, reserve rejoicing for when the deal is signed.
So I raise a glass & offer my thanks all involved in the hard work at Pinnacle + Le-God & the mystery backer & keep up the pressure till the deal is complete, I will then breath a huge sigh of relief & celebrate.

We have MLT who will unite fans and inject optimism

We have the offer of some investment - we have never had that before
