The Last Soldier has gone.

Only a couple of weeks after we lost Henry Allingham we now have the sad news that Harry Patch has also passed away at the ripe old age of 111.

I know that he didn't consider himself to be a hero, saving that accolade for the ones who didn't come home, but he was and always will be.

Prayers be with you Harry, God bless. I will raise one to you later this evening.

R.I.P. and sincere thanks for your part in keeping us Free.

As previously suggested, maybe Harry could have a State Funeral to commemorate all his brothers in arms. He was the last one and represents a generation whose values and commitment were second to none.

Agree but apparently there is still one left (that is commonly known of), Claude Choules, 108, living in Australia.

I think though that Claude was in the Navy, whereas Harry Patch was the last British veteran alive who fought in the trenches.

I was not specific enough in my post. I did, of course, mean last British veteran. Which is why I was espousing the idea of a state funeral.

but I agree with you ESB, something should be done for the last Army veteran to have fought.
