Millwall Millwall Millwall Millwall

I don't think that Millwall really need many police for most of their games, Leeds excepted!

There's no real reason for any Saints fans not to attend on the grounds of safety (perceived hooligan threat), no more than any other away game.

Aren't Millwall fans more inclined to chase 8-year-old kids through a park, than try and start a mass brawl with a load of boozed up adults anyway?

You going to risk it?

there are certain pubs down the Old Kent Road, where you would risk a severe beating if you went in with Saints colours on

Don't usually wear colours anyway. I'm not going to be looking for trouble, so it's more than likely I'm not going to get into trouble. I was just referring to this old story: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4539786._Hide_in_a_bush__police_tell_scared_boy/

He was twelve, not eight. My mistake.

ok

We're Southampton.

For this reason, there wont be any trouble (....that is newsworthy, anyway).

Since we've been out of the Premiership we're getting a worse and worse reputation. I'd bet there will be a fair bit of trouble at Millwall when we go tbh..

I doubt there will be much trouble, as Millwall and the local police are well versed at controlling the fans at the New Den.

The fans are kept very much separate inside and outside of the ground. The away coaches are brought in by police convoy and unload in a secure area. There is a separate platform for away fans coming in by train that leads directly to the away end.

Only idiots really looking for trouble before the game will find any. If they turn up by coach or train they will have to leave the secure area first.

After the game the away fans are kept in for what seems like 2 hours, once you are released by the police there are tumbleweeds rolling down the street!

When I went, I didn't see any trouble at all depsite a few fans giving it large inside the stadium.

I've been told by my Millwall mate (he's not a complete nutter!) that the police protection for away fans is pretty tight, apparently they wait at Bermondsey station and escort groups of fans to the New Den, a bit like when Millwall fans were escorted by police to St Marys in August.

I know plenty of football fans that are intimidated by Millwall away and wouldn't go, the whole West Ham/Millwall league cup incident hasn't helped, but I don't think its a problem, just wouldn't fancy getting lost in that particular area of London on my own wearing Saints colours!

  • 2 weeks later...
surprised no ticket news for this one yet, will only be 3 weeks away on saturday. Hopefully we'll get the full 4000 upper and lower tiers.

I thought the lower tier is always closed, I've never seen it opened. I thought this was so their fans in the upper tiers either side can't chuck stuff down.

Likewise though I'm quite surprised there's no news on this one yet, want to get my ticket confirmed, look forward to the usual Saints takeover of the Hole in the Wall!

Tickets are on sale to home supporters from the 22nd on their OS, so hopefully we'll hear something soon ie tomorrow!

No, they do open the lower tier, just don't think its often as most teams don't need the bigger allocation and I think they try to limit away allocations for teams like Leeds etc who would otherwise fill it.

Going on that our tickets should be £20, as that is how much it is for home fans in the opposite end.

They closed the lower tier after the West Ham game (in the Championship) because it was a main clash point for fans.

Good stuff. surprised they say tickets available on the day, this is one of the easiest away games to get to, £20 not to bad a price. Trains are back to normal then as well with the tunnel open, so the 9.30 from Central up to Waterloo for 10.49

must admit i laughed reading that, the ticket news says there are 5 wheelchair tickets available, then the travel news says the first wheelchair accessible coach is running with room for 6 so one of them is going to miss out!!

Well spotted, however the club did promise to address the fan at the radio Solent forum who raised the isssue of wheelchair users accessing standard layout coaches. This is imho another example of the club delivering what we the fans are asking for.

It is Millwall who should be embarassed by this, as it would appear that Saints have a higher capacity coach than they do within their whole away section for wheelchair users! Astounding in this day and age.

Maybe deserves a thread on it's own?

Well done saints and I would advise anyone reading this who knows any wheelchair users who might want to attend to get in early, once it becomes common knowledghe that the wheelchair accessible travel club is up and running I would predict it to be very popular, not least due to the fact that the 'enabler' who could just as well be a friend or family member can travel at the concessionary rate too. As I said already, well done Saints I am surprised this has not been heralded more publicly actually, perhaps the Echo would like to do a piece on it? ;)
