I guess if we win it will be good for us UNLESS it makes us take our foot of the pedal, in which case it becomes good or all the other chasing pack. A defeat wouldn't be a bad thing for us as it will remove some pressure. If Bournemouth win, the pressure is on to go up as 2nd and they will bottle it, allowing us to sneak in late. It's all mind games.

He's dead right you know. This is one of those games they decribe as a "six pointer". The reason they say this is because if we win we gain 3 points and Bournemouth drop 3 points all in the same result. This would be perfect for us as they are right up there challenging for promotion.

Yes, and further to that I'd offer this:

The more I look at the likely candidates for positions 3-6 (Peterborough, Huddersfield and the hard-charging Leyton Orient, who have been doing it for weeks) the more anxious I am to finish in the top two.

While I don't doubt our skill levels and while I still think we have the best players in the division, I'm not convinced that we have the intestinal fortitude necessary to emerge from that lot in the playoffs.

Saturday is huge.

I've just looked it up on the internet (only briefly) and I can't see anything about this ever happening. Can anyone confirm that we definitely CAN'T get 6 points in a game?

In some sports, if there have been lots of postponements and there isn't time to play both games, there are sometimes double-headers which count as both the home game and the away game.

Remarkably, I don't believe it's ever been achieved. However, if we beat Bompey and they field an ineligible player, they would get deducted 3 points, making the match a "nine pointer."

never mind the football and the score. I just hope the queues for the toilets aren't too long and the pies are of premier league standard. I dont care if we win, as a football consumer i want my match day experience to be first class, even if the football isn't.

With back to back wins and Bournemouth losing last night, I seriously hope this is the start of the winning run that we need to cement our position in the top 2. Now the Saints way of doing the next couple of games is to smash Bmouth in their own backyard, morale to be as high as it has ever been and then go and lose at home to Sheffield Wednesday ;)

I really hope Adkins is drilling a bit of discipline into the players and not being afraid to drop anyone who walks out on to the pitch with the attitude of "we're too good not to go up"

Thanks! It is an interesting point that Kingsland Nick makes and NONE of us know what the British weather is going to do. We already have loads of games in hand so if the weather goes bad we might not be able to squuze in all games. We still have to play Charlton twice, so if one game is cancelled and time runs out the result of that game could get us 6points.

I play 6 aside football, and one season the team we were playing on the last day failed to show up. They decided that the fairest way to get a result would be to use the same result as when we'd played earlier in the season. On that occasion we lost 9-4 which meant we lost 9-4 again on the final day. It was hard to take, but it seemed fair so we accepted it. The other team were very pleased and leap-frogged us into the final promotion spot without actually bothering to play. Has a situation like this ever occoured in the Football League?

You know, a loss for Bournemouth at this stage might just galvanise them together and help them push on till the end of the season, rather like how you get better when your best player breaks his leg and is out for the rest of the season. It would be like scoring a goal too early on in a game against Man Utd - it feels hollow as you know they'll step up their game, turn it around and you now have no chance. I think the best result for Saints may be a draw, so long as we all go and tell them they were the better side and deserved it afterwards.

Well, I guess 6 a-side leagues are also managed by the FA so the same rules would apply. If, for example, on the last day of the season one team got stuck in traffic then they couldn't rearrange the game baecause it would delay everything - so using the same result as the last match seems an appropriate thing to do. Maybe our best chance of going up is to get stuck in traffic on the last day! Who are we playing and are we away?

I'd really like to see Bournemouth go up this year - next year they'll be pretty f*cked in this league as it looks like there are some big teams coming down (Preston almost certain, Sheff Utd, Crystal Palace and M'boro looking perilous as well as Scunny) and they've not got any money to strengthen their side, so all their best players will be cherry picked (no pun intended) by bigger teams. However, I will certainly not be cheering for them on Saturday afternoon, as this is an absolutely crucial game for us.

m8, I reckon you got the sh1tty end of the stick in that deal ! If the other team failed to show up then surely YOUR team should have won by default as THEY failed to fulfill the fixture. In that case YOUR team should have won 9 - 4, that would seem fairer to me. As it was, the other team gained an advantage - not a skate team was it :rolleyes:

Next year don't turn up for every second match where you won the first. That way each win in the first half of the season will be worth 6 points!
Now who said there was no such thing as a 6 pointer?

Forget the sarcastic comments ...anyone who has taken a serious look at the table will see that a win for us on Saturday (even 1-0) will put us above B-mouth. Anything less than a win by peterboro would leave us above them and we'd stay ahead of MK Dons (even if they win) and only a good win by Huddersfield would keep us out of 2nd place.

Can I just point out again how right I was with this thread. Not just on the matchday, this victory spurred us onto promotion I think and sent Bournemouth into freefall.

Hardly - how was the game a turning when we were already on a winning run (having put results at Walsall and to a lesser extent Hartlepool behind us) and the wheels were starting to come off Bournemouth. Psychologically, MK Dons felt a much bigger win.

no I didn't. By calling him a 'soothsayer' (a person who predicts the future), I was obviously alluding to the fact he was predicting that it would be good for the team went on to win the game and bad for the team that went on to lose the game. I do agree with you that such astounding logic shouldn't be baulked at and I too will be keeping an eye out for this threads
