I'll not say who it is but give it a listen and whilst listening have a think about how far we have supposedly come. This music, like punk and rock n roll, is from the hearty of people who are ****ed off with politicians, royalty rulemakers in general and the like.
Well, I like it. Actually, it almost brought a tear to my eye ('almost' I said).
Nice call hamster. F**k me, Billy didn't mince words did he..? So refreshing to hear that nowadays, when attitudes have hardly progressed a single iota. I have a Billy Bragg album around somewhere. I'll dig it out, or go Youtubing.
EDIT: Off my album - It Says Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RunXQq6cf3U)
Love it! Billy Bragg is my all time musical hero. Well I always felt it was good to be able to sing better than one's heroes.
He taught me to play guitar, helped me over many a relationship breakup, gave me a life-long love of language, showed me the relevance of politics and drummed into me the importance of compassion for your fellow man.
I don't always agree with him but love him or hate him, very few people can craft a lyric like this man.
Very relevant following the election his Days Like These (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5X5hsevHUI) is a general comment on the apathy of the electorate, and specifically a call to arms to remove Thatcher's conservative party from power.
This clip taken from "The Tube" from the Red Wedge era and is complete with guitar/amp failure near the end.

Been watching a lot of French TV recently with my French exams coming up, and came across this guy performing on TV5 (who do a show called Acoustic in which they get a lot of bands in to do sessions, think Jools Holland but with more garlic).

I have also ordered this.
I am seeing them at The Royal Albert Hall in June. I first got into JB`s music back in the early 70`s when I saw him play "For a Dancer" with David Lindley on "The Old Grey Whistle Test". 1976:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU1rZa8Ur_Q

I saw the two of them in concert at The Riverboat (a folk club in Toronto) ca. 1973. I'm also a big fan. My favourite albums are Late For The Sky (from the early period) and I'm Alive (from the more recent stuff). I have to admit that I lost interest a bit in his more overtly political period on the 80s (Lawyers in Love, World in Motion, Hold Out, Live in the Balance). I much prefer his songs about personal relationships.
Browne's and Lindley's tour continues across the U.S., after they're done in the UK. No dates announced yet, though, for eastern Canada. I hope they make it to this part of the world!

Muse - United States of Eurasia.
That's the only one not currently in my posession. As for Sirenia, I started with downloaded tracks from YouTube, etc, and burned my own CD of the best ones, but they have a habit of swapping their lead singers at regular intervals.
( Mind you, there's the whole other side of me - Maiden, Metallica, Led Zepp, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Staind, The Clash )

Love is Strange by Jackson Browne and David Lindley - a recently-released 2 CD album recorded live in March 2006, during a tour of Spain. The band includes half-a-dozen of Browne's Spanish musician-friends. Lindley is featured on a few of his own songs on the first disc, but it's pretty much all Jackson Browne material, featuring fresh arrangements and interpretations. A good bet for those who like these guys!

She had such an beautiful voice.
I've just got hold of 'Come to My Garden' which features the totally gorgeous 'Les Fleur' (which was covered by 4Hero).
Before her successful solo career she was in an experimental psychedelic soul band called 'Rotary Connection'.
The band was the brainchild of Marshall Chess (who's father Leonard founded Chess Records) and they released their self-titled debut album in 1967.
Their albums are pretty rare and expensive (I've seen the debut album on CD go for £100!!) but there is a a pretty good 'best of' compilation called 'Black Gold' that is as cheap as chips and well worth picking up. (Just don't tell Manji).
8) It's here on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Gold-Very-Rotary-Connection/dp/B000E6ETDO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1276592974&sr=1-1

Thanks. Yes, I'm very familiar with that track. I'm a big Roy Harper fan - got half-a-dozen of his LPs on vinyl. I didn't realise, though, that it was the Grimethorpe Colliery Band on that track. By the way, in North America the HQ album was re-titled When An Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease and the cover art and photographs have a cricket theme. I used to play that track a lot when I was a DJ for my university's radio station.

One of those bands who I used to occasionally buy singles and nothing else from were The Move. Truth is, I've always had a soft spot for anything Roy Wood was involved in, because he was a pop record writing master, and because he was a rocking bugger too. He's probably most famous, to many people, for Wizzard, but his bands were so much more than that. They were laced with upbeat, progressive pop numbers, with a hint of humour, and as catchy as hell. From The Move, I love Fire Brigade, Blackberry Way, but my favourite is Brontosaurus. Have a go:

Poor attempt, although nice. And I thought you were going to give me an obvious James Brown track like: Get On Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynfk7izWNE8)

Why should there be a connection ? I was just pointing out I surely knew that 10cc recorded Art for Art's Sake but I was listening to Mott.
My excuse to say Dude. After all, you mentioned Mott The Hoople.

There's a bit of echo on the original track. Try playing them ever-so-slightly out of sync and get a concert-hall effect.

Yeah, well said.
I'm really into this band that hasn't actually been formed yet. They're going to be the best thing ever, but I will cease liking them after their first album because they will sell out to 'the man'.

I used to be into them just before you thought of them, but I've moved onto the next band now.

I'd already been into the next band of which you speak, but moved on before you'd thought of the band I'd first thought of before I had.

Lucky you. The hedgehog and the tree are having 'musical differences' and I fear a split may ensue.

Great single. Stumbled over it again, while looking for something from the Isley Brothers
Sly and the Family Stone - Family Affair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YZpbYqOw4o)
If anyone has a funkier voice than Sly Stewart then I've yet to hear it.
Sly and the Family Stone: excellent band.
Mainly remembered for 'It's a Family Affair' on the 'There's a Riot Goin On' album and 'Everyday People' from 'Stand!'.
Often overlooked is their debut album from 1967 (such a good year for music) 'A Whole New Thing'; this is my personal favourite.
It's from that transitionary period when soul was starting to morph into funkier more experimental areas (mirroring the change in rock and pop) as artists began trying psychedelics!
I agree with your comment about Sly's voice, incredible.
I would have to say JB or Eddie Bo are just as funky, and what about George Clinton????
Is there a funkier band that Funkadelic / Parliament?

Nope.
