Good shout (as usual) Hamilton Saint.
I'm not sure which is my favourite, they're all so good (up until Sweet Deceiver and then it's all a bit downhill).
However he released The Unfairground about 3 years ago, and I rather like that; it's a bit of a return to form.

But there is no disputing the fact that Kevin Ayers is a song-writing genius.
And one can't forget his part in the formative years of psychedelia with the Soft Machine.
Sadly, he is all but forgotten these days.

But this is the beauty of music isn`t it? What is beauty to one person is bland to another. I always say that there is no such thing as bad music. It`s just that some is a lot better than others. What is best is purely down to the individual.

The problem with The Vaccines is that they're playing the same kind of music the Yanks produced in the early 00s (Walkmen/National/Exploding Hearts...). Now the NME are championing them as some sort of saviours.

To me, they sum up the British rock scene. No originality, no excitement.

Gordon Lightfoot: The United Artists Collection. It's a 2CD set that gives you his first four albums (mid-to-late 60s) in the same order as the original LPs. (Which is great - I hate it when they mix them up and they're out of chronological order!) Lightfoot was such a great songwriter. Interesting to see his vocal style shift over the years from an expressive pop vibrato to an understated folk-country drawl. Some of the production favours overblown arrangements (by today's standards) - lots of horns and strings. But other tracks have an acoustic backing, featuring Lightfoot's own guitar playing.

The saxophone solo was used as the theme for a BBC TV series based around a welsh lifeboat station, and filmed at Mumbles near Swansea. I used to walk past it quite regularly when at Uni, and outside the station, and seen on the credits of the TV show, was a tethered old goat, with a baaaaad attitude.

Stevie Wonder!

The first concert I went to. At the Gaumont in Southampton in the winter of '68-'69. Then I saw him open for The Rolling Stones in 1972 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

Here's an interesing home movie by Jim Price from the 1972 tour. It shows Stevie Wonder's band and the Stones on stage together doing Uptight and Satisfaction. Cool!
