Saw a film of a Blind Faith open air concert on (I think) Sky Arts recently. Certainly had the potential to be a top band for some time. Pity they were so short lived. Possibly too many egos in one place!

B.A.D - E=MC2. . This song is just class, never understood the lyrics though, any ideas?

Somebody I never met
But in a way I know
Didn`t think that you could get
So much from a picture show
Man dies first reel
People ask what`s the deal?
This ain`t how it`s supposed to be
Don`t like no aborigine

Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery

Took a trip in Powis Square
Pop star dyed his hair
No fans to scream and shout
When mobsters came to flush him out
Gangland slaying underground
New identity must be found
On the left bank for a while
Insanity Bohemian style

Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery

Met a dwarf that was no good
Dressed like little Red Riding Hood
Bad habit taking life
Calling card a six inch knife
Ran off really fast
Mumbled something `bout the past
Best sex I`ve ever seen
As if each moment was the last
Drops of blood colour slide
Funeral for his bride
But it`s him who`s really dead
Gets to take the funeral ride

Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery

Space guy fell from the sky
Scratched my head and wondered why
Time slide into time
Across international dateline
Scientist eats bubblegum
Hall of fame baseball
Senators a Hoodlum
Big chiefs in the hall

Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery

Stray thoughts fear to tread
Placed upon the screen instead
Shes my flame too hot to hold
Had to settle for her cold

Bloodlust - Greek God - Gold discovery
Gone bust - Tight wad - Slow recovery
Axe job - Flame thrower - Ironbar and gun
Betting shop - New owner - A walk in the sun

Ritual ideas relativety
Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery

Spread the news the Maestros back
With a beat - box soundtrack
The King of brains - Queen of the sack`
Executives have heart attack
It`s assault course celluloid
The money makers would avoid
Sometimes notions get reversed
Centre of the universe

Only buildings no people prophecy
Timeslide place to hide nudge reality
Foresight minds wide magic imagery...

There's a few pointers...

Mmmm, still not sure, 'Don't look now' is a classic film but still can't make the connection. However, that particular verse now makes sense having watched the film many times.

Maybe it's just about different films? Wasn't it Mick Jones[Ex Clash] that wrote it?

Good album I think. Hardly Grammy stuff, but still very danceable, which I think is what they were going for, so that's okay. I should imagine quite a few tracks will find themselves in the clubs soon enough (if you've been out anywhere recently you will have heard 'Tupac Robot Club Rock'). I particularly like the album title track, 'Nonsense In The Dark' with Orlando from The Maccabees (my favourite band) guesting on vocals. Very good.

Drove upto Oxford today, and all the time between chatting to my passenger, I was humming No Language In Our Lungs - XTC. It's possibly one of the few of their tracks I've never really liked that much, but as soon as I got home I put on Black Sea, and it's great. I'll never skip that track again. Amazing..! Got in and the late evening started off brightly with the album Rattus Norvegicus. What a great return. It was a split decision between that and No More Heroes, and it won.
Joe Jackson got another look in with the whole of I'm The Man. Then goodness knows why, I went onto Donovan with tracks like Catch The Wind and Jersey Thursday. Perhaps it's because I've been thinking of the the ex-missus of late, as she's been quite ill in NZ, and it'll be a long time until I see her again.

Of course XTC made an appearance. It would be criminal if something penned by Andy Partridge or Colin Moulding didn't do something for my soul, so Yacht Dance went on. If someone said, write the perfect lilting sailing song, this would be it. How AP gets the precise rhythm of a bobbing boat into music I'll never know.

And now I've finished with music, and am listening to a radio drama version of Mutiny On The Bounty with the late Oliver Reed as Captain Bligh. It stays very, very close to the novel written by Charles Nordoff and James Norman Hall, which is all the complete public account there is. Great stuff too. Love sea adventures, and this one is as adventurous as they get.

Ah, knew that Deppo lad had potential.

You've noticed that aura...

Or is it aroma..? I can never determine which. ;)

Don't follow this though. On an extremely rare mini 80's AOR moment courtesy of Spotify. With the dismal efforts from the boys in Red & White, trying to keep the leather thing away from the Claret and Blue men for around 90 minutes, I'd thought I'd call in the music from when Saints were riding rather higher.

Frankly, I never liked 90% of this stuff, preferring to go skiing and latterly discovering sailing during that time. But I've had a go at More Than A feeling - Boston, which has that terrific chorus interspersed by crap verses. Tried Van Halen - Jump, and David Lee Roth - California Girls and they were abysmal. Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd was pretty good though, and now I'm thnking of Santana, or maybe I should really go off the wall with Bachman, Turner Overdrive.

As I said, don't follow. It's certainly safer not to.

St Landrew
25-04-2009, 10:22 PM
OK, it went Santana, but to keep with the 1980's AOR theme, I went for a track off the album Inner Secrets, called Open Invitation.

Bit dangerous that track. Don't select it as part of a mixCD and play it in the car, and DEFINITELY NOT while riding a motorcycle, because the throttle will be let loose, guaranteed. It's a bit like BTO's Roll On Down The Highway in the sense that it suggests... yeah, go kill yourself with speed..!

St Landrew
25-04-2009, 11:18 PM
OK, It's gone all The Dukes Of Stratosphear now. I'm just exploring the limits of Spotify at the moment. There's a few things I can't find, but the Dukes aren't one of them. Here's your chance to hear utterly superb sixties music, but written in the late eighties. Try them by typing in the band name. See how many bands you can name that have influenced each original track. By the way, Spotify doesn't put them in the correct order, so they don't flow quite as well as they should. 25 O'Clock should always be first up.

I'm listening to You're My Drug at the moment, and the sixties sense is almost palpable.

Jeffrey Lewis - 'Em Are I
Although it doesn't reach the sporadic dizzy heights of his earlier stuff, its his most concistant album to date (talk about damning with faint praise). Its actually really really good in an anti-folk/low-fi indie rock style.

Sonic Youth - Bad Moon Rising
The spotify review said it was their weirdest album to date so I had to give it a go. Its nice and droney and builds to a fierce climax with death valley 69, and the spotify ads sounded more hilariously awful than usual

A cracking little Sherlock Holmes adventure called The Ferrers Documents. Holmes/Watson fans will instantly realise that this is NOT a Conan-Doyle story, but one of the many clones, this time written by Bert Coules, for the BBC canon of SH stuff. IMO, he writes rather well, and his Watson is slightly less deferential to Holmes, than the proper one, although C-D's Watson was no slouch or thicko.

It's 45 minutes of pure Victorian escapism. I absolutely love radio drama.
