I was listening to Sky Valley the other day whilst trying to put together a massive flat pack wardrobe. My frustration and anger were tempered by the filthy stoner rawk riffery.
Today I am listening to a few comedy CDs I dug out, peter Cook and Chris Morris "Why Bother?" and a hilarious prank phonecall album by some Scottish comedians called The Hang Ups - sort of like the Jerky Boys but from Paisley. Very amusing.

Breakfast in America - Supertramp. Can't bring myself to change it in the car's CD player. Not a bad track on the whole album and brilliant lyrics that seems to fit the hot weather, the recession and generally difficult times.
Makes the A303/ M3 seem like the East Coast Highway for a few minutes every day.
It must be good because it replaced in my cd player the greatest live album ever recorded and even better digitally remastered to the original running order...UFO - Strangers in the Night. Best live band I have ever seen and saw them twice at the Portsmouth Guildhall in the late seventies.

Yes mate indeed. Soulseek for a bit but I used to record 'live' straight from the ninjatune weekly stream too in the early days.
I would love to find an MP3 of the Festival Hall 'V-Jam' gig Coldcut broadcast about 10 years ago. Have it on tape somewhere. Excellent mix (featuring in part the Black Beauty soundtrack alongside some Euro96 commentary. Worked superbly well!)

Been going through my mini light reggae collection over the last few days, and my 3 or so UB40 albums have amazingly stood the test of time, IMO. Was remembering a couple of lovely holidays in Cornwall during my 20s* [early 1980's], and tracks like Food For Thought, King, Many Rivers To Cross and Cherry Oh Baby actually had me almost feeling those times like they were a touchable thing. I welled up a few times, it was that tangible. I think if I could have smelled an old canvas tent at the same time the whole scene would have been complete. ;)
*It should be remembered that, like loads of people, I spent many holidays in Cornwall, right from my youth. The two or three that I had during my early 20s were extra special. It's a special county, as the Cornish know very well.

Can't decide yet.. I mean, it's less eye-widening than "Endless Nameless" and less poptastic than "....Must Be Destroyed", but it's lacking something. It's not as hard as "The Wildhearts", not as R'N'R as "P.H.U.Q", "Riff After Riff" and "Earth Vs..." but it's not innovative either. Some of the songs are great, some are too formulaic and some just sound like covers of any American rock band's B-sides.
I'm sure it'll grow on me more as I play it relentlessly on the iPod.
PS. I'm aware that this review was really only informative to Pancake.

Yes yes and thrice yes dear sir. Its an odd one to say the least. A couple of songs are total WH-AOR-pop: "The Only One" and "...New York", the former actually being on of my faves so far. Not keen on "...New York" as its the type of throw-away Ginger track he was knocking out as his "Singles Club" stuff back in '01. "The Jackson Whites" and "Mazel Tov ****tail" are awesome tracks that will be on repeat a lot I think. "Tim Smith" and the title track are as close as we get to riff-tastic epic this time, not bad but both too short! Im pretty sure "John Of Violence" was nicked from Green Day (I jest, natch).
You downloaded "The Snake, The Lion, The Monkey and The Spider" from their official site yet? The unofficial "Track 11" from the album. Plus there are 4 extra tracks on the Jap. version, including the full version of "Zeen Requiem" that I sent you the bootleg of earlier in the year. Not sure when they are getting a UK release, but Ive got the Jap. version on order so should be hear soon.

I didn't download SLMS but I listed to the stream (assuming it would be on the album - perhaps I should read more closely) and thought it was great, in a lol way ("f***ing, crazy b***ard" and monkey noises should be included in every song IMO) and will be downloading it tonight.

A few more listens in and I really, really like it now. I disagree with Ginger's comment that "it's like nothing we've ever done" because it's almost a snapshot of everthing they've ever done. My only complaint is that it's too damn short.
