I had been hoping to be listening to the new AIC album but the Royal Mail c*nts in London have made sure that that won't be happening any time soon. I will more than likely pay to download it as well.
Anyone any comments on the latest Megadeth and Pearl Jam albums? Not overly impressed with the Megadeth one and don't see what all the hype is about.

Im liking it, but Im a bit "disturbed" by how much they can sound like the old AiC. I know Cantrell's harmonies have a lot to do with the vocal sounds, but DuVall is almost too close to Staley for me - if that makes sense.
The guitar work is excellent through out though, a real return to form there.
Oh, and Im not sure about the "light" bass drum sound the producer has given them.

I think the most prominent vocals are actually Cantrell's anyway, other than on track 3 (can't remember the name, but it's a great song). DuVall not in the same league as Staley but I'd say this is a stronger album than than the "Tripod" album.

It took a few plays for me to 'get it' (as do most of my favourites) and I now think it's a great album.
Only slight criticism is I'd like to hear more DuVall on it, but I think the songs are superb and it is comfortably the best new album I've heard this year. Sure it's no Dirt but I honestly don't think there's a single bad track on this album.

Out of interest Ponty, were you that into AIC and Cantrell stuff beforehand?
They were more an interest than an obsession. I always quite liked them but never had any mates that were into them like other bands through the years, which (pre places like this) made discussing them, sharing opinions and certainly seeing them live pretty much out of the question. To put it succinctly, they were always on my radar but I never really got into them in a big way.
The MP3 revolution is a handy way of revisiting stuff, like AiC, that I never gave enough eartime to in the past. Which is handy cos most contemporary music is garbage.

after seeing spiritualized doing 'ladies and gantelmen…' in full the other night, I though I'd give 'let it come down' another go. I didn't like it when it came out, probably due to the crushing weight of expectation, and compared to l&g it just seemed a bit predictable and flat. A couple of months ago I heard it at a friends house and it sounded good and today I got it out, dusted it off and gave it a play. And its brilliant and I was a fool.

Their one and only album from 1985 was a gem. Don't think they ever played live as the vocalist, Lorita Grahame, couldn' t handle it.
After "Pump up the Volume" they folded as a result of all the writs and legal costs that record got them.

Brilliant album, his first (with the Library) was one of the most underrated albums of 2007, really suprised it's taken a connection with Kanye West for him to go into the focus of the general music buying public.

Not the same as the earlier albums, certainly more Puzzle than Blackened Sky, but I love it all the same. You can definitely hear some Marmaduke Duke creeping in to some of the songs too, notably 'Born On A Horse' and 'Know Your Quarry'. Some 'fans' are already *****ing that they've gone too mainstream and gotten worse over the last few years, but I don't see that. They are still a fantastic band imo.
Anyone go and see them at Guildhall last month?

Just finished Listening to Blue Moves - Elton John from 1976 just about 20 minutes ago. Haven't put it on in perhaps 10 years. Sounded really good, especially One Horse Town and Chameleon. Of course, Out Of The Blue is the closing theme for the old Top Gear programme. That took me back.
Perhaps in another 10 years...
