2 sliced (thick) brown bread cut from laof (not pre-sliced)
1 slice lightly buttered
1 slice light coating of BBQ sauce
Pepper (black, freshly ground) to taste.

Smoked bacon is the bacon of champions. Bought from a local butchers and freshly sliced before your eyes. Cooked in a frying pan that has been allowed to get really hot with no oil in. The bread should be fresh crusty white bread with real butter and brown sauce on the bacon.

I seem to recall that 2-3 years ago we conducted a proper scientific study which proved that smoked bacon was by far the superior bacon, and unsmoked bacon was for people who didn't actually like bacon.

How often must studies be conducted to keep them 'up-to-date' and 'in touch'? Would it be acceptable, say, to conduct a 4-yearly study into the smoked/unsmoked bacon debate, or should it really be biannually to stay relevant?

We get bacon here, which is good.

A packet of Iceland Super Value that costs 99p in UK costs 6 quid here. Proper stuff is more expensive than good steak!

What we can get is forzen American hand carved bacon at a sensible price. It's sort of almost like Streaky, but REALLY tasty. In the pan it shrinks out all the water and becomes the perfect crisp (smoked) bacon. Under the grill it stays larger is more tasty but doesn't crisp just burns.

The other problem here is that every 3 months or so we run out of HP Sauce (the ONLY brown sauce sold here) that means us sarnie freaks HAVE to keep about 4 bottles in stock at anyone time.

Tried one with Chilli Tomato Sauce once - not as good as HP but it WAS good

According to Gordon Ramsey's mentor, ol' whatisname, Marco Pierre White, the best way to cook bacon, for a bacon sandwich is to microwave it.

And he said this in all seriousness. I've tried it. It does work very well with the bacon being very well cooked and juicy [but not crisp], and you get your bacon sandwich in seconds. But I wouldn't say it's the best way. makes a fantastic and super quick BLT this way though.

Tbh, the vast majority of bacon rashers you can buy these days isn't worth the bother with taking the trouble over.

I was about to reply to this and cal you an absolute mad man, but just out of curiosity I did some research on Google and a lot of people seems to think it can be done. I never would have imagined cooking bacon in the microwave. I think the order of kitchen appliences I would have tried cooking it with would be frying pan, grill,, george forman, oven, toaster, kettle........and then microwave.

One thing that google searches have told me though is that it makes the bacon very crispy.

I was always under the impression that you shouldn't cook raw meat in the microwave. I'm not sure why. Anywho, I'm off to try it.

I'm just the messenger. It's Marco Pierre White's idea. Admittedly though, it's not the worst culinery one I've ever come across. And if you really microwave the bacon to death, it does become crisp. But by then it has long got past it's best flavour and texture. Heavily salted bacon becomes crisp much easier, and is the better for it. IMO, lightly salted bacon is better left moist and juicy.

BTW, I love some of the obvious enthusiasm in these posts. Le god, I'm salivating..! ;)
