Walcott in the u-21 squad is not a surprise but Martin Cranie is selected as well. A credit to the Saints Academy, that no doubt will not be noted by any national newspaper. Walcott had to be sold as his ambitions were beyond SFC, but was it a mistake not to hold on to Cranie?

For the 1000th time - we offered Cranie a new deal. He turned it down. He went.

Cranie wasn't good enough to get more than one game in the whole of his last season at the club. We were well shot of the pikey skate ****.

Okay...so it had nothing to do with Mr Burley's dodgy taste in centre halves then???

For the 1001st time, there are two sides to the offer of a deal, and maybe Cranie should have been given a better offer, but Burley didn't seem to think centre backs mattered. He's certainly good enough now and would have been an asset last season.

Don't often agree with you but I do here. Once Burley "falls out" with a player there's no going back apparently.
