You could just download Gimp, which does everything Photoshop does, but is totally free.

There's a lot of free open source stuff available on t'internet.

Open Office is excellent. It'll do most, if not more than Word, Excel and Powerpoint and is compatible with MS Office doc types.

If you're not after anything too sophisticated, Irfanview is a decent bit of image software.
