• Jay Rodriguez signs for Southampton

Saints have begun their summer transfer business with a bang by signing Burnley's leading goalscorer for an undisclosed fee that is widely believed to be a club record amount.

    The first of the Summer

Following on from leaked news on Twitter this afternoon Saints confirmed the capture of Rodriguez this evening after a photoshoot this afternoon at Limewood Hotel in the New Forest. The fee is officially stated to be undisclosed but a figure of £6 million has been stated, again through Twitter.

Rodriguez has signed a 4 year deal and will look to provide welcome competition up front alongside Rickie Lambert, Tadanari Lee and Billy Sharp. The 22 year old striker is Burnley born and bred, having played for the club since joining their youth system in his teens. He has shown a great commitment to Saints by moving away from his family and footballing roots, i'm sure we all look forward to him stretching his legs for us against Premier League defences next season.

While he has not played at Premier League level before (not featuring in the league for the Clarets while they had a one season spell in the top flight two years ago) Nigel Adkins' has reportly been expressing interest in Jay ever since our promotion to Championship Level last summer. The official Saints website confirmed the rumours that had been circulating by confirming that Rodriguez had agreed terms to join while away on holiday in Mexico last week and signed on the dotted line on his return.

    Welcome aboard Jay Rod.
