• Steve Davis lines up for the Red

Saints have completed the signing of ex Glasgow Rangers and Northern Irish international captain Steve Davis on a free transfer.

Davis has been linked to the club for the past few weeks and after a relatively quiet start to the transfer window after signing only one player (albeit for a club record fee) it now appears that after recent speculation linking us to dutch defender Alexander Buttner we are now really pushing on.

Central midfielder Davis began his career at Aston Villa, being voted the club's young player of the year and then eventually player of the year outright after breaking into their first team. After establishing himself further at international level for Northern Ireland he then followed his international manager Lawrie Sanchez to Fulham in 2007. A change in management however then saw him join Glasgow Rangers, he swiftly became a key figure at the now troubled Glasgow giant and decided to leave after the club was liquidated.

Davis will provide stiff competition in the middle to Morgan Schneiderlin, Jack Cork, Richard Chaplow and Dean Hammond. He is an extremely shrewd signing on the face of things and we look forward to seeing what impact he can make back in the Premier League.

exactly the sort of midfield general we need.

Agreed that N.I. don't have one of the better sqauds to choose from, but ANYONE who has got 50+ caps
in any country's side surely knows his way around, and sounds like a very sound buy.
