A brief statement on the club website this morning has confirmed that Nicola Cortese will remain our chairman after receiving the full backing from club owner Katharina Leibherr to fulfill his 'ambitious plans.'

Southampton FC: End Of Season Awards

This evening Southampton Football Club hosted its annual Official Player Awards Dinner at St Marys Stadium. Here is a run down of the awards on offer and their eventual winners.

Hosted by Sky Sports Ed Chamberlain and including Honorary President Terry Paine MBE players, fans and everybody in between congregated in the Mick Channon Suite to review Southampton's return to the Premier League and honour the players achievements for the season.

There were a total of four awards on offer tonight including; Players' Player of the Season, Goal

Stuart Pearce has today announced his 23 man squad to travel to Israel this summer to compete in the UEFA U21 Championships.

After both receiving recent call ups to the U21 England squad Pearce has included Southampton full backs Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw in his squad list. Shaw has had to twice pull out of call ups to the Under 21 side due to injury and will be hoping it can be third time lucky is Tel Aviv this summer. Clyne has already played in Pearce's side and will be hoping to appear too in Israel.

Reports have broken over the last 24 hours that our chairman Nicola Cortese is considering his future at the club. A contractual dispute with the estate of Markus Leibherr seems to be the reason for this conveniently timed drama.

This morning, Maurcio Pochettino finally quashed any hopes fans may have held for Europa League qualification via the Fair Play League, with both him and Chairman Nicola Cortese agreeing that they would decline any offer of a place.

Well, so much for a top ten finish and Europe via the fair play league. A confident and physical West Brom team brushed Saints aside at St Mary's. Southampton looked horribly off the pace and lost discipline in the second half with red cards for Gaston Ramirez and Danny Fox rounding off a terrible afternoon.
