  1. Bottom line is that if you can't score, you can't win! We're asking the defence to give us a chance of a scoreless draw every time just to get some points. They held out well today until a piece of Sanchez magic literally turned them on their backsides. Granted they went missing for Giroud's goal. He scores like that all the time so how come the defence wasn't allowing for that? Let's face it, we are a mediocre team, devoid of ideas and destined to wallow in mid-table at best unless we sell again in the Summer and then relegation is very much on the cards. At least that would make the end of season more exciting. One thing's for sure, if we do sell and don't buy, well then next season is going to be even more frustrating than this one has been. Happy days!
  2. Just to put my opinion in from the other side of your world. When I lived in Christchurch, Hampshire in the 50s and 60s, this was the derby. So, in fairness, seeing that that "other" team doesn't even feature anywhere near the top flight anymore, why not call this "the" derby? Gives a bit of an edge to the game. Unless of course the main intention is to hate the rivals then I guess it will be harder for a lot of supporters to do that where the Cherries are concerned!
  3. Seriously? With Gabby we at last had found a player who will work hard to get the ball and then try everything to stick it in the net. A true striker. Austin is so slow that he has to wait for someone else to set it up on a plate for him to score. He's not in the same town let alone the same street as Gabby!
  4. This.......and why wasn't Herrera booked for overacting? Horrible little p...k. Sadly think the Saints suffer for being too nice sometimes. Now looking forward to the upcoming PL games with a striker who can score at last and possibly a new centre back who can shore up the defence even more.
  5. 3-3. Still waiting for extra time! The script was always written in advance. Favour the "big" team on the "big" occasion. Appalling decision. Daylight robbery. Good news! At least we have found the striker who has been missing all season. Great hat-trick! Now to see some impact on the PL.
  6. What I think he means by a "must win" is that psychologically it's a "must win" to try and raise the spirits of everyone. The manager, the players and the fans. Just to get more points on the board and not drop into relegation contention. Remember of the games left, we still have to play 7 out of the top 8 so points in games against the lower teams are essential, not just desirable. Also, what's this obsession with the league Cup final? Even with VVD there was always little or no hope of taking that one out. Now.......it's dreamland to expect to win that game and yes, I do remember 1976 vividly but this is a different era.
  7. I'm surprised people are mentioning that Gabbiadini could start, let alone be on the bench. Isn't there a mandatory stand-down period when new players join the club, either injured or not match fit? Being sarcastic but there always seems to be something to stop them appearing in the first few games. Hope we do see him straightaway though. Nothing to lose on what we already have on show. It took 70 minutes to show any urgency against Swansea and it was already too late by then. Interesting that no-one has specifically mentioned the unbelievable ball skills of Boufal. His trickiness is amazing but unfortunately probably wasted in the PL as he will invariably be kicked off the ball before being able to open up a defence and set up chances. He must start though, but I bet he doesn't.
  8. What a performance! You will have heard my shouting from the other side of the world I'm sure! So pleased for Claude as well as the players. To win this without what was, only a short time ago, arguably the best defensive duo in the PL, was amazing. Can't speak highly enough of Yoshy, Stephens and Romeu's performances. Go Hull!
  9. Saw an interesting statistic on the TV this morning. Team with the most crosses in the PL, Saints with 560. Next was Man Utd with 519. Didn't see the game this morning (just as well by the sound of it) but watching the Burnley game at the weekend, every time a cross came in, no player attacked it, they just waited for the ball to come to them with the obvious outcome. So frustrating. This is one of the big reasons no goals are being scored. Where is the hunger?
  10. This rotation crap is nonsense. Years ago, players could play twice a week without blinking an eye. These days these overpaid so-called athletes are treated with kid gloves. Use a settled team and things may improve. Having said that, to have no forwards or midfielders that know where the goal is will soon send us down into the relegation zone. Some urgent spending is needed in the next few weeks or we all know where this is going to end up. N.B. Howe rotated his whole team for the game at Millwall and they were thrashed. That worked didn't it? Got what they deserved. Incidentally, don't believe that the posters on here that criticise the team/Puel/Reed etc. are any less fans than those with their heads up their backsides! Make no mistake this club is in crisis and the upcoming games against Liverpool will underline that. Bet they don't put out their reserves for these games!
  11. Whatever happened to Gardos?? No-one bothers to mention him anymore.
  12. Agreed. Thought he was right to be miffed when substituted. Was sure that Redmond would come off as Boufal was starting to create panic in the Cherries defence. Understand that the yellow card was a concern but not enough to take him off. Shows he is passionate about playing anyway.
  13. See we are being linked with yet another midfielder: "Southampton are lining up a January move for Valencia's £16.7m-rated Spanish midfielder Dani Parejo, 27. (Daily Star)" BBC Gossip WTF. Everyone can see that we have no-one who can score goals regularly. A recognised striker/goalscorer is what's needed. We're only safely in mid-table due to the defence being so strong. I despair if we lose Van Dyk or Fonte or both in the January transfer window as we have no goalscorers. Can't depend on 0-0s or the odd 1-0 all the time. Someone needs to wake up, it's not as if the money isn't there!
  14. Oh OK! I'm not familiar with what's good or bad reporting from over here so stand corrected. VVD may show more interest in leaving now though after today's debacle. God forbid as he's the only one showing the passion for the team to do well.
  15. Wasn't able to watch the match as it wasn't shown in NZ. Judging by all the comments, I was the lucky one. An entirely predictable performance by the sound of it. Sit back and defend and hope to not concede as we don't have any goalscorers up front. Poor old Virgil, he must be so frustrated. Good luck wherever he goes, he's the only one who consistently performs and deserves to be a part of a team that wants to succeed. Out of Europe, soon to be out of the League Cup, FA Cup a false hope, so now it's full concentration on avoiding relegation!
