  1. Well the answer to that depends slightly on whether the diamond is a firm commitment. If it is we need more than 2. Assuming boufal is done we will also need an upgrade on Romeu who I think excels when one of 2 defensive midfielders but is too lightweight to be the base of a diamond. We simply cannot go another season with maya as first choice back up to Jose. And like others have said we need a real finisher up front who can also hold up play. Much as I like jay and Austin neither of them will be good enough to play in this formation in those 2 positions even as back up. Neither can either track back well. If we go back to 4 2 3 1 I think just boufal and centre back are essential.....as Shane, Charlie and Romeu will all fit more neatly into that side. As an aside, whilst I think puel will be feeling the heat from fans and players I'm not 100% sure how disruptive the whole fonte saga has been. Body language between jose and Virgil was not good at old trafford and horrible today. Was Virgil directing his frustration at Puel or perhaps some of the players who he may feel are letting the team down ? As ever would live any colour you have guan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Super kel is at terminal 5 Heathrow today with all the team [emoji3]. Guess his role will be announced soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Sorry forgot link Lol http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/en/teams/s/southampton/old-southampton-football-shirts-t40.html
  4. Just for a sense of perspective here is a reminder of some of our hopeless kits over the last 30 years. Not even sure this ranks in the top 5 of disasters. Some of the 90s kits were an abomination. Frankly most of us remember shirts with fondness simply because of results and performance from the team wearing it. If we do as we'll as NC is planning this year in 20 years we'll all be calling this one a classic
  5. Good friend of mine used to play for Milan and fiorentina.....he texted me that he views Ramirez as one of the best players in seria A and how this deal highlighlights that the Italian league is now a poor relation to the English. I am not worried he's not worth it, simply that it's not yet a done deal.
  6. Impossible to articulate what a massive impact he has had on my life and indeed my kid's .... Thank you so much Markus and RIP
  7. My 6 year old son is a season ticket holder this year for the first time after taking him to wembley for the jpt when he was 5 3/4 last season as the first game. Other than the aforementioned requirement to distract him with sweets and crisps during the dull periods/half time there are no problems and indeed saints have rapidly become his obsession (not what his Man utd supporting mother wanted!!!). I think the timing for him has been pretty much perfect and I wish my dad had done the same earlier with me in hindsight. Also have a second son who will be 5 in Feb and will get him a ticket next season and try him out for a game towards the summer. In my experience its not the noise that will be an issue (actually he loves it) but more the concentration span plus the risk that a few bad experiences and you risk losing them to United or Chelsea for life just like all their mates.....
  8. Could not agree more with this....too many players and we will start having the opposite problem of managing the bruised egos of players dropped who are already more than capable of performing at a higher level. I suspect once we get our new winger we will be looking for the loan market only in the event of injury problems hitting one of our stars (Fonte and Lambert would be the problem areas) but having benched players of their calibre is unlikely to be the solution today. Every team could be improved - Man United could do with a better CF, right back and winger - but frankly if this Saints team doesn't win the league something will have had to have gone horribly wrong. One final point; if I were Cortese I would definately have a contingency pot in the event we get close to Xmas and are not looking set for promotion. I would need money to pay for a new manager and some fresh faces that he would undoubtably want - after the last few years of running our finances on a all-or-nothing punt this for me would seem rather more reassuring.
  9. Try looking 2 posts above my one to find 1 who thinks AP shouldn't be there - not obvious that its me that's over-reacting here....frankly hearing boos at the end of the match on saturday was far more depressing than any of the play I saw
  10. LOL at watch a bunch of miserable, ungrateful manic depressives we have as "fans". We have a bunch of people who never even attend games claiming we're not good enough, another bunch bemoaning the fact that we haven't signed anyone (oh apart from best right back in the league, cover for him, best left back, a central midfielder that looks exactly what we've been looking for and the promise of a winger /striker by the end of the week) and then another bunch deciding we should sack the manager based on dropping 5 points and losing to a premiership club (against the balance of play). Yes its a disappointing start and I like everyone else wish we had converted one of the multitude of chances on saturday and last night buts lets get a few things clear: 1 You would have to be blind or mad to not see the gulf in class between us and Leyton Orient. Add that to what we saw (if we bothered to attend) last night and I think this team is very very close to being good enough to challenge for the title in the championship let alone here. I suspect Guly and a pacy striker will get us there. 2 People get injuries and it can take a while to come back - just look at Torres or Rooney - don't see their fans turning on the players or their managers. 3 Maybe just maybe the death of ML might have added a little pressure/distraction to the team. If we are still not in automatic promotion spots in 4-6 weeks maybe I will also join the panickers but in the meantime I will be doing my best to support the players and the manager and play my part in HELPING rather than hindering everything Herr Liebherr tried to acheive. One thing is for sure, I hope to God the family don't read this site and read some of this BS
  11. I hope we can now support Cortese as we did Markus. He is the guy who is charged with getting us to the premiership by the family and he will need support not criticism and petty squabbling. I am sure this will be a lot less fun for him than it would have been with Markus there and I'm also sure he is going to enjoy the ride a lot less than we do so let's at least make it easy for him. I, like many on here, would like to see the fans unite behind the club as we look forward - I don't care whether it's a full house saturday (although I'll be there with my 6 year-old) - but I definately want the support to be unambiguous then and for the rest of the season irrespective of the odd poor result. I think it's the least we can do - Markus' family and indeed Cortese are sacrificing a lot more than that for us.
  12. couldn't be clearer - will be in the premiership before Nicola moves on for sure. Now let's go on and win the league! WIFM
  13. All thoughts with Markus' family today. With him being a religious man I sincerely hope they can take comfort in how much he will be appreciating the support and thanks he has been receiving over the last few days. I will be there on Saturday with my 6 year old, who without Markus would never have been able to share my love of this club. WIFM
  14. God we have come a long way this season...I am gutted we didn't bury those earlier chances as with the pace we played defending a lead with tired legs was do-able but chasing it was only ever going to end that way. That said, even my wife, a Man U die-hard and football snob says its our best team she's seen at St Mary's since our opening season there. Now have to bounce back and beat Norwich - play like that every game and we will still squeeze into the playoffs. I don't want to read complaints on tactics, substitutions or anything else - we played the right side and approached the game in the only way we could to really have any chance. Lots of if only moments too. I for one am very proud of the team and the club after that performance.
  15. Amazing...only game I ever left early too!!! really! should be a seperate thread....
