As always, this thread will get filled with idiot remarks. But consider how educated or informed these people may or may not be. There are plenty of hate filled idiots here with relatively extreme views they consider 'nationalist' and so on.

I can. I can understand some resentment aimed at the West, particularly from theocratic societies, fair or otherwise. Yet judging the concept of a whole nation is always idiotic, and racist, no matter the target.

What you have to take into account is that Iran is a very insular country, and as such they don't have anything like the kind of ethnic diversity we have in the UK. Their nationalism is forced upon them in a way, so it is not surprising at all that a good percentage of Iranians have particular views about other cultures including our own, especially when we've got an unelected moron desperately clinging on to power in this country daring to criticise the Iranian electoral system and publically condemning Ahmedinejad. He still has a lot of support - whether the election was rigged or not.

this is not strictly true. a lot of iranians see blair and bush as heroes. honestly.

Unfortunately, you will never have free and fair elections when Ayatollah Khomeni (?), 'the spiritual leader' publicly backs one candidate over another.

I think you'll find that they have no issue with the people of the UK (unless they are Sunni) but have a major issue with the leadership of the UK.

why do you think we get asylum seekers from the middle east?

it is not because we are a 'soft touch' at all. it is because people who are in oppressive governments do not 'believe' anti-western propaganda. people in these countries, on the whole, know that they are being oppressed, know that human rights are being denied to them, know that the truth is being suppressed. the unfortunate thing is that they believe the west to be free, a paradise even, compared t what they are used to.

needless to say, they get a shock when they come here and come up against a barrage of hatred and racist bile. i think we should be proud of being seen as the land of the free, and not become more like the countries we are effectively (or literally) at war with. and, as i said above, our leaders are sometimes seen as genuine heros of freedom, as opposed to the infidel. not in all cases, but more than you may be aware.
