Thread: Royal Pier/Town Quay Waterfront Redevelopment

Default Royal Pier/Town Quay Waterfront Redevelopment

All sounds very good but how long has this been mooted? I'll believe it when I see it. After-all they've managed to stuff up Ocean Village (not once but twice) and the Woolston Waterfront seems to have been abandoned (or at least, nothing seems to ever move).

Lol, every 1-2 weeks SCC come up with 'visions of the future' - problem is, its a far-sighted vision from the most short-sighted council in the world.

Expect flats. Yes, more flats. Or office space. We need more young professionals with nothing to do.

If they do make a success of this it will be the final nail in the coffin for Oceana Village. The city isnt big enough to support two similar schemes. Heres an idea for the council - why not renovate the park for a few hundred thousand and let people continue to have free access to the waterfront rather than overdeveloping and leaving white elephants in your wake.

Just one fly in the ointment as far as I know. The land is owned by ABP, as is the waterfront, and they are not happy teddy bears at the moment. This development was all tied in with the Dibden Bay development, so I wouldn't be planning any picnics there in the near future.

As I said, as far as I know.

Why don't we just give Kuti's the whole of the front. They/he has done more for the development of the waterfront than anyone else.

I do agree but I wouldn't worry too much - this will be shelved in a few weeks time and we'll be moving on to the next architects design as a front-page wowzer.

Yup!...I agree. Western shore?, Ocean village ( half finished ), New Ski slope?, Ice rink!. West Quay?, the common!. All talked about, and we're still waiting.:smt009

What have we lost.....Ice rink, the Pier, Top rank complex, the Lido, the Zoo, the bird aviary, a decent common. In fact, pretty much anything and everything, that was there for social/pleasure pursuits.

Is this the early 80s and are they talking about Ocean Village again????

That used to be packed with shops, people and plenty of things to do!
