Thread: Suites Re-named

  1. #1

    Default Suites Re-named

To keep it off the other thread.

It seems Bobby Stokes, Mick Channon, Matt Le Tissier and Terry Paine have had the honour of having suites names after them removed, as well as the Ambassadors Club for former players being stopped.

    The Suites are now called...

    1885 Club
    Executive Club
    The New Carvery

Why does the new regime appear to be so reluctant to appreciate our history. Kind of ironic seeing as though they are working so hard plugging the '125th Anniversary Kit'

Bobby Stokes Lounge ( or whatever it was called ) was not so much a suite, I think it was for WAGS and guests of Directors, so wouldn't show up in the Corporate Hospitality

Oh yes because that is exactly what people are saying isnt it. You might not think this is a big deal but to me it is another disappointment in a list of disappointments which seem to be growing almost daily.

Well whose fault would it be if it was not his?

What was the point in the fans going to all the trouble to name the suites ( I am sure it was through the Echo? )

There is absolutely no reason to change the naming of the Suites, none at all... apart from bitterness and resentment maybe. Do you honestly think the club are going to sell more tickets as 1885 Carvery as opposed to Mick Channon Carvery?

Or sell more because it's the Executive Club instead of the Matthew Le Tissier Suite?

The MLT and Channon suite meant that it was personal to Southampton and was a reminder of the great players in our past. A real shame IMO. As I said in the other thread, I wonder if Ted Bates had died this year, if a statue would have been allowed to have been made.

You do realise that with the exception of the New Carvery these suites have been in place since 1 May 2009 dont you ?
The Carvery thing since December 2009.

This seems to me what they are called when you decide which deal you want on matchdays - I dont see where or how it says the suites named after MLT, Channon and Paine have lost their name as such.

Besides can we just remember that when this supposed atrocity went on the OS Cortese was still over 2 months away from becoming Chairman of SFC !!

Seems a shame, obviously 1885 has connections. Maybe they could re-name the stands after iconic players?

It looks like Cortese took being booed at Wembley badly.

    Wrong.

I was in the "Matt Le Tissier Suite" last season.

Take this from the Supporters Charter ( lol )

Facilities: corporate hospitality facilities include executive Boxes,
the Business club in the matt le tissier Suite. our entry level
package is the channon club. in time we will look to introduce
and develop a flagship offering that matches our ambitions.

That was written in December 2009!

MLT Suite has always been the Executive Club @ Matt Le Tissier Suite.

Mick Channon Suite has previously been Mick Channon Family Club / Carvery and the Ambassadors Club was known as the Terry Paine Ambassadors Club

The supporters themselves named the suites ( I think )

This has probably been done as a corporate branding exercise. When we are in the top flight we will be looking to attract the sort of prawn sandwich brigade to whom the words "Terry Paine" etc are meaningless. "The Executive Club" etc. has more of a shoulder pad and champers feel to it, and that's what the clientele may be after.

It's really no big deal IMO.

If our "legends" were the likes of Maradonna, Best, Cruyff etc then there would be some cache to suites named after them... but Paine, Stokes and in a few years MLT - to anyone other than old Saints fans? Don't think so.

Is this further Cortese bashing without all the facts?

I am a member of the Executive Club at the Rose Bowl. It is called the executive club. My pass says Executive Club. It is situated in the Robin Smith Suite.

Could it be the names of the "rooms" are the same and that all the club have done is be a bit clearer what the product offers?

I will give you an opportunity to delete your message Dulldays before posting up various things to once again prove you were wrong.

The 'suite names' might still be in relation to the players I guess however... still a bit strange to take the players names off them though.

'The Executive Club' has been the name of it since when I first started going in there when we were at The Dell. But since SMS has always been Executive Club @ Matt Le Tissier Suite etc etc... just seems strange to me to drop the players names off...

I'm told these suites still have the names of the players in them and not much has changed.

Otherwise it seems odd and needs an explanation. But it does feel like you're looking for things to build up against Cortese now. I just want to know the real reasons behind the decisions, IF they are what you say, and who is responsible, because we don't actually know, it's just assumed to be evil old Cortese. I think Lowe has made many very suspicious.

Or do some people miss him? In the sense that he was a good outlet for all frustrations, anger, problems etc., and want Cortese to be this pantomine villain to fill that void? Very much starting to seem that way. I just fear nothing will be enough to fill that void for poor Stu :-(

Frankly, I couldn't give a f**k as long as we perform on the pitch next season. While sitting on in the family stand it will not impact me at all.

Where do you suggest we find out from? A reply is hardly likely to be forthcoming from the club.

I think Weston is right, aside from this. The picture of The New Carvery on the OS is, I'm pretty sure, the former Ambassadors club. When ML and NC arrived they said they would be doing away with the idea of a free lunch for ex players etc, and the ethos of the Ambassadors Club was to sell spaces alongside that of Lawrie as host and a selection of ex players.

I think its a real shame if this has been done away with; I was in the Ambassadors Club for the Sheffield United survival last say of the season, and it was the most enjoyable day of football I've had, eclispsing the Wembley days. But that's business, I suppose.

I always thought the stands should have been named after legends, not suites.

Looking at the write ups on the OS there is no reference made to the players names. It just simply says 'suites'

Sorry to p!ss on your fire Dulldays but as I stated earlier, I have been a regular corporate customer since the days of the Old Executive Club at the Dell under the West Stand.

Not that it matters... just another example of how Cortese doesn't seem to like the idea of Southampton having a history.

I take on board what you are saying but, as a Saints fan, the names Paine, Stokes, Channon et al hold far more in my heart than the likes of Cruyff, Best & Maradona.

But then business doesn't work with a heart and it does look like NC may have lost his way a tad, IMHO.

Oh come on, do you really expect anyone to believe the truth?!?! This is clearly an outrage against every single Saints fan dead and alive. It's going to have a huge impact on ticket sales now and it will obviously mean hordes of fans making the trip down the M27 to Farton Park take advantage of the excellent facilities there. Seriously, this is just goes to show what a terrible, terrible businessman NC is and how much he really undervalues his customers. Some might say that naming dining areas in the Stadium is not REALLY important and that concentrating on the football on the pitch is of paramount interest, but they're mongs for thinking that. We have a long history of ensuring the matchday experience includes all the niceties and trimmings because that's what's really important - even Mr Lowe got that right. Future players like Rickie will want away now they know a suite will not bear their name! We need to organise a big rally and march to SMS as one to show how hacked off so many fans are at this travesty! Who's with me?

(OK, you don't have to answer that)

Jesus, this Dave Benson Phillips guy hasn't got an axe to grind has he!!! LOL. You want to get a job fella or at least do a job that keeps you away from a computer, so you don't think about Cortese all day long.

I couldn't give a flying f*** if the suites were named Knight, Redknapp & Storrie if Saints win matches and continue to sign good players like Lambert.

Worth noting that the Hampshire website makes it very clear that the Executive Club is located in the Robin Smith Suite - http://www.rosebowlplc.com/pages/executive-club/

Splitting hairs until there's further evidence, though, I suspect.
