Actually there are 7 in total.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_one-club_men
To be included:
Been at club for minimum of ten years.
Loan spells at other teams disqualify players from being counted in the list.
In this list there are 6 Southampton players. Matt Le Tissier is an obvious one. Without clicking the link can you name the other 5?
Actually there are 7 in total.
Nick Holmes and Ted Bates would be 2. Benali and Dodd both had loan spells which would rule them out.
Loans should be fine, still at the club
Tommy Traynor I think was one
I once had a chat with Tommy when he was working in the Stevedoring Dpt at Union Castle after his Saints career had ended, must have been on a holiday job myself I guess.Seem to remember him telling me he played for an Irish side in his early years, don't know if that counts though, must have only been a lad at that time.
Ali Dia. I bet he didn't play for anyone else.
Maybe, it was a long long time ago, I was a schoolkid at the time,we even played a few matches against crew sides from the Castle boats. My did Tommy give you a bolloaking if you screwed up,if he didn't then it was Bobby McCloughlin who was with Tommy in Stevedoring.
John Sydenham ?
im a one club man
Bates, Traynor, Paine, Sydenham, Channon, Nick Holmes, and MLT
I'm confused a bit here, do they count as a one club man if they've played for ten years at one club, even when they've played for other clubs? If so Channon is in there but he played for a load of other sides, so he can't really be called a one club man in the true scheme of things.
I see some Skate fan has been moaning at the poor Wiki editors to include a bunch of overlooked Skate players. Thus proving no-one wants to sign their cruddy players.
Bit odd, they don't include Ted Bates in the main list, but mention him in the section about coaches etc. He was on Norwich's books, but never made a 1st team appearance.
Strictly Nick Holmes should't be in the list as he played for East Cowes Vics.
David, you really are slipping if you think Windmill only played for Saints. You're forgetting Man City and Norwich and even his spell with the lot down the M27.
Painer won the 3rd division with Hereford after Lawrie Mac showed him the door (he played over 100 times for Hereford). Sydenham played for Aldershot, as did many of our players in those days, they were almost our reserves for a while.
Doesn't Eastleigh count as a club?
James Arthur Bradford 1923-1936, Bill Luckett - 1923 -1937, Bill Ellerington - 1945 - 1956, Pat Parker, 1951 - 1959, Eric Day 1945 - 1957, Leonard Wilkins - 1945 - 1958, Nick Holmes - 1974 - 1986.
All on Southampton FC page on wikedpedia, must admit I have only heard of 4 of them,so please do not class me as a statto. [ lol ]
