They asked if he was still looking to get 2 Cb's in and he answered that 1 would be nice at the moment! I got the impression he realises that going with the current crop of CB's after Sept isn't really an option.

This probably is the correct thread but rather than start a new one I've added it here.

The Times today said that the Premier League have stated that Pitch Sizes must be the same size this year i.e. 105m by 68m (if possible i.e. no stands).
The biggest losers will be Stoke who's pitch size was only 100m x 64m last season for league games.

The Premier League site says that St Marys was only 102.41m by 65.84m last season so it appears there may be a change in some of the lines for this season.
    http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/c...ml/southampton

This might be a reason that sides are looking to "smaller players who can hold and run with the ball" rather than "big physical players".

The PL have also said that all sides must use the Nike's Maxim ball.

The pitch was narrowed by about 4 metres a few years ago, and I'm pretty sure that the halfway line was moved slightly towards the chapel as I now look along it whereas I didn't when we first moved to St Mary's.

    After seeing this:

"BBC Wales report that Swansea's Scott Sinclair, who has sparked transfer talk after stating he will not stay with them beyond the end of this season, is on the bench at QPR today"

What are the chances he comes here?

He will end up at Liverpool.

Although his brother is at Saints..there is a big interest from Man City..allegedly.

I was quite impressed with Caulker at Team GB, dominant and decent passer as well.

I was wondering if Spurs might let Dawson go, what with that Vertonghan character they'd signed. I was thinking our wage cap would be a problem, but it don't seem like NC is that bothered bout that no more!

    Caulker over Dawson for sure.

Really?? I think we'd be crying out for the experience Dawson could bring to the defence.

He gets injured so often plus we don't really seem to be going for experience and Caulker played a full season anyway. Doubt we are in for either.

Think Caulker will start quite a bit for spurs this season tbh. Big talent

According to Nixon, the tale regarding the (i assume) CB we're after is in the printed version of the people tomorrow. And it will ''WOW'' us.

but it will be hard to do.

Complete b******s but long outside bet it's Alvaro Pereira, though he's a LB. Do think the vacant no.3 shirt suggests we're still after a LB.

Not sure. Adkins seemed fairly content with Shaw and Fox y/day.

Although we could be after a CB who can also play LB...in an emergency.

Agree-CB's the priority. He's so confident that the story will raise eyebrows you can't but help think its a big name, especially as the ramirez has become the new normal. Not sure that any of the CBs we've been linked with to date eg Biyik tick that box.

The People is linking us with a 7 million bid for Tello from Barcelona, rivalling Liverpool's interest. Can't see anything about a centre back though.

That'd be the one Nixon was on about! He never mentioned it was a CB so I don't know where people got that from.

Seems its either Tello or Phillips for this role then. I'll be honest, I know nothing about him.

Well he is very highly rated at Barca and played in one of their Cup matches that I saw. Ambitious move with Liverpool and Arsenal keen.

Would be even more suprising than Ramirez.

Lol good stuff. Only worry is we chase a few ambitious signings to the end of the transfer window and none come off and we end up with no one.

Nixon says we asked about him to be told he isn't for sale but might be let out on loan if he signs a long term contract.

Not exactly sure that is how I took his comments. IMO he was saying that the Buttner deal is dead (and if nothing else happens) then we've got two good left backs in Fox and Shaw. Not sure we would have move Harding on if we were not looking at replacements.

In that case I'm assuming that if he doesn't sign a long term contract they'll look to sell him.

Tello, crikey. Well we're after a winger, but jeez - the level we're after is incredible.

Sunderland are in talks with Man City over a £10 million bid for winger Adam Johnson. At that price, HCDAJFU. Worth a whisper in the sheik's ear today?

    Would want outrageous wages.

Would have thought we would have already inquired. Was murmurings of it at the start of the transfer window. Is on £130k a week at City.

Tottenham are softer him too, I believe.

Johnson is talented but rumours of bad attitude. Ramirez would be on less money...

It's probably worth mentioning that Nixon also said we're going back with an £8 million bid for Butland, but Liverpool now appear to be the favourites as they're prepared to loan him back to Brum for the season. The other clubs said to be in for him are Man City and Spurs.

Tello starred in Barcelona's 5-1 win against Real Sociedad tonight. Think this rumour might be dead.

Not necessarily as they have Villa to back now. The only reason Tello got a chance last season was Villa's leg break. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tello leave now Villa is back. Whether Saints have a chance it's hard to say. Style of football is right but bigger clubs would be sniffing around.

Also with Rodriguez, Lambert, Guly, Sharp and Lee in the squad already how much time would he get on the pitch?

OK, with a week and half left of the transfer window we are locking this. Feel free to post individual player links (sensible links, not rumour sites ) to their own thread(s).
