    Default Anyone for Portsmuff?

Just thought I'd post a topical comparison for you all that occurred to me. Today, Wimbledon centre court will host the final watched by 15,000 fans. Last season (2011 - 2012), the average home attendance for Pimply was 15,015. In a nutshell, the blue few command the same attendance as a tennis match between a Scotsmen and a Swiss.
At the end of next season we should probably expect Pimply to see a comparison to.......?

Difference is that's centre court's capacity, they could quite comfortably average 50-60k there during the 2 weeks if they had extra seats, probably more.

That said, hopefully Bournemouth'll be able to scrap it out with skates for best attendance..!

Prepare for the hilarious in-jokes about the p*mpey takeover thread in the lounge btw (in the off-topic forum section)

...which twenty odd million will watch on TV this afternoon. Pretty dodgy comparison.

And despite how old Wimbledon is as a venue, it is still far more modern and sophisticated than the shat pit down the road

Probably nearer 120 million thanks to global coverage making it even dodgier.

Having been to both Wimbledon and Fratton park this year, I can tell you there is absolutely no comparison.

To be fair, Wimbledon is only 2 weeks a year. If Wimbledon was on every Saturday for as long as the football season I doubt you'd get 15k a week

I think you probably would, don't forget Wimbledon gets these attendances on weekdays. And equally if Saints played everyday for two weeks (including weekdays), with only weak opposition in the first week, I doubt you'd get the average attendance we get with games spread across a season (primarily on weekends)

15,000 is just the centre court capacity, Wimbledon as a whole has a much higher capacity and much higher crowds on a daily basis across the tournament.

Compare Wimbledon to Portsmouth? Just stop it.

Would be more appropriate to compare Pompey with the parking situation around Silverstone.

I went to the final today (got a flukey ticket).

Seats were selling for many thousands of pounds on the black market. (one of the Sunday papers said it was £32,000 for a pair).

Don't get that too often at Fratton Park - don't think they can even sell their allocation at Wembley.

Nope, but I did have a Swiss flag with "Saints" written on it.

How did you get tickets may I ask?

I've been applying in the general ballot for the Last 6 years and only been successful on one occasion in 2007.
