Thread: New formation?

  1. Default New formation?

last season we generally played with either 2 sitting CM with the wide players moving around
    or the diamond

    generally, very attack minded

Nigel has been saying that we have been working very hard on a new formation...you would think (maybe) that this would be a 1 up front scenario as to be honest, we would be due a few pastings if we were as attacking every game like we were last season..

    should be interesting.

I also think none of these formations will include out and out wingers...much like last season

    It will be a Barcelona style 4 3 3!

I think we will keep it very narrow, try to keep the ball and let the width come from the full backs.

i think we will change our formation frequently.

I think our formation will change depending on whether we're at home (4-4-2 or 4-3-3) or away (4-5-1)

A bit more from our Nige today on this 'third way', which it seems is perhaps a little more defensively minded:

"The positive thing we've got is we played two different ways last season and we were very successful with it.

"We kept very good possession of the football, and scored a lot of goals.

"What we're try to add is another dimension to the team with another way of playing so we can do exactly the same thing but with a good defensive structure, because when we step up now we're playing against world-class players who will punish you."

Makes a nice change from the Harry Redknapp "it's only about having good players" cobblers.
