I think we'll line up something like this:

    --------------------GAZZA------------------
    FRAZER----STEPHENS----SEABORNE----SHAW
    ----CHAPLOW-------CORK--------DAVIS-----
    ----PUNCH--------LAMBERT-------STEEEEVE-

    Although i'm probably completely wrong.

Davis is starting on the bench,i think most players are getting a half each.

First half lineup looks the City starting team IMO.

Good to see Steve Davis taking part at last.

Nice strong side. Interesting to see that JWP is starting in the stronger XI, ahead of Davis and Cork.

I'd imagine it's to do with easing Cork and Davis back in.

I'd still expect one of them to start against City instead of JWP>

    Could be wrong though.

I'd imagine he's much closer to match fitness than the other two.

I think JWP has played his way in.

in which case surely one of the other two should start?

That isn't the way the Saints coaching team do things. They ease players in, assess, calculate, work out fitness, when to rest when to push. It's all very scientific!

So is JR the first choice left winger now? Thought he had a good first half against Ajax, but it's a bit of a square peg no?

    442 for this one.
    As in like last season?

More likely it will be the system we've been using throughout pre-season...

    Code:
                   K.Davis

    Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox

                 Schneiderlin

           Ward-Prowse Lallana

    Puncheon Rodriguez

                   Lambert

Not his best position for sure.

    Hope not.

He's a striker not a winger. Burnley fans say he would be wasted as a winger.

We have two players called "Davis" and one of them is on the bench, so technically he is right.

Playing in that system he's not a "winger"

He is an interchangeable foward in the front three. Sometimes he's wide of the three, sometimes central.

Mmm....maybe, but pre season friendlies are all about fitness of the regulars ...and the chance for new and fringe players (like JWP) to impress. If they don't ...they'll be on the bench for most of the early season games.

Looking at the start XI for the Brizzle match, it doesn't seem like NA needs to be impressed by last seasons regulars, but the second half (sub.) performances will be most interesting to analyse.

If wingers stay on the outside and run to the byline then no, he's not one of those. Think of him as more of a wide-forward. He'll get chances.

We do seem to go behind alot after dominating....need to start converting our chances. Wakey, wakey lambo. He's been dead this pre-season!

Because he's come back unfit for some reason. Against Ajax he looked much bigger than any point in his Saints career.

Anyway I suspect the starting line-up tonight will be similar to the one that starts against Man City.

Jon Stead is only 29, who'd have guessed? Thought he was about that age when he nearly sent us down in 2007-08, before Stern John's heroics.

Adomah seems to be causing us non-stop problems, as usual. We'd do well to sign him.

good option on the right side straight away.

Why aren't we signing players like Stead FFS??

Will never forget when he scored.

Mate of mine said when he came on, "Oh don't worry he is ****"

I think it was just the kit, it made a few of our lads look a little on the chubbier side...when in fact they aren't. I doubt Rickie would have been unprofessional in the summer of the biggest season of his life.

But he hasn't been involved much at all in many of the games, starting to wonder if that's more to do with our new setup than anything.

Rickie looked out of form in the match against Ajax, hope he picks up his form soon, I have a bet on Lambert being top scorer of the English players this season.

Do we have enough goal threat in the new system? Not sure we have enough in the wide positions and the central striker needs to be mobile.

What exactly do you mean - that's a bit ambiguous.

I thought he looked overweight and lethargic that game, hopefully Adkins can get him "Saints fit" in what remains of pre-season.

Lambert will be fine, as I recall he hardly set the world alight last pre season.

Three half-time changes by #SaintsFC: Steven Davis, Jack Cork and Frazer Richardson on for Ward-Prowse, Schneiderlin and Fox.

I don't know about the mass hysteria you're clearly making up, but it'll be thoroughly disappointing if we can't turn this around. Especially given our pre-season last year and how that translated into a running start from the first kick off of the league season.

Agree...think we are still crying out for another wide threat. Don't think we ever replaced AOC and we were ok last season but the wide options this season won't cut it.

Really do hate playing v Bristol. Bet we get them in the cup this year too.

  48. Default

    15mins to go

lots of subs for both sides, game seems to be petering out now.

We had a great pre-season last year in terms of the setup, but the results were as mixed as this years (so far)

I seem to remember a 1-1 with Yeovil the week before the season started.

and an early defeat to Eastleigh.

Probably, and you can't read much into pre season games but you look at the starting team and subs tonight and there aren't too many nailed on Prem players.
