    Shows how little you know...

Phillips had just come back from injury. He went on a one month loan to Sheff Utd to get his match fitness back. For what its worth he scored 6 goals in 6 appearances.

Christ with some people the club can do nothing right. We make a bid for a player and to some he is not the right one. We don't make an offer and we are not investing! At the moment prices for British players are over the top. Yes we all know we need to strengthen at the back, but then again you go on any message board for other clubs no doubt it is the same. There are only so many players available that don't require stupid money that the Man Citys etc. can afford. But no doubt the club will sort the CB problem, but we also need wingers/pace.

Their lot dont seem too disappointed provided Oyston doesnt pocket it all.

Most fans are like this when a player leaves. Hooiveld had the same. Phillips was the stand out performer at SMS when he came on. Looked dangerous everyone he had the ball

In the league game? Thought Taylor Fletcher was the standout player on both sides by a country mile.

Would be very pleased with this. Phillips and Clyne on the right wing would be great.

Think we are living within our wage structure which is sensible but frustrating but we only need to look down the road to see what happens when you dont. Have to agree foreigners offer better value for money.

Phillips the ideal signing for us despite what some might say. One of those you hate plahing against because of the pace and directness.

Sounds good, hopefully a CB will be in before Man City, or at least someone for the left side.

About the English players being poor value: the problem is not their quality, but their restricted catchment area. Very few English players have made an impression outside the UK and even less at a middle-level. I've always assumed it's a football school issue. This means that their price is high inside the UK because most clubs will have a look but there is virtually no interest from abroad.

People keep going on about a CB and this person is too much and that person is not good enough, it wouldn't surprise me if players have a quick look on this forum and say "you know what they are a hard bunch to please - no thanks "

I'm sure the massive ****ing PL wage packet will quickly help them to get over it.......

Pacey winger that can play in a front three both left and right

Exactly what we need. And a very realistic signing for a team that has just been promoted

Personally well happy with this think he is a great player and fits the mould of the sort of players we try to sign these days . Mind you I never expected us to sign loads of PL veterans and current internationals so maybe my expectations were a lot lower than others. On the plus side if we get relegated we will have one great Championship team next season...hell might even win it next time round

By that theory they should be cheaper, not more expensive.

Well it's not as if we haven't done it before.

Off the top of my head players like Glenn Cockerill, Colin Clarke, Mark Wright and Brett Ormerod were all plucked from lower leagues and did a great job for us.

From a technical perspective I see nothing wrong with the club signing quality champ\lge 1 players + hopefully they won't act like billy big boots when they arrive.

Thats exactly what happens. Once a player has agreed terms and clubs agreed a fee they all have a look on the clubs biggest mongboard for a view on how popular they will be before signing. I have it on good authority that the Gorkss deal fell through be used he wasn't happy with Alpine,DPS and hypos comments about him and Fontaines injury was a smokescreen the real reason didn't sign was because Cortese read a few comments on here that we should be aiming higher than an injury prone journyman from Bristol so pulled the plug on it.

I would love to know who our first choices were for the right midfield role.
I mean you dont leave it until two days before the season starts to put in a bid if this is the player they have always wanted which is what I'm sure we will be told if this comes off.

I'm not putting the club down or anything cos I think he would be a great signing, but just saying that you dont wait until now to secure your first choice, and anyone who thinks this is our number 1 target for this position is a little bit too naieve.

Bit of an assumption. The timing may have more to do with the fact that Blackpool have only just signed his replacement. Was Van Persie not Man Utd's first choice?

Gotta hope it's Phillips from the first 4 months of last season, not the last.

Interesting that we suddenly slap in a 6m bid just after NC supposedly met with Ramirez's representatives. Can't see us signing both so maybe that meet didn't go so well?

6m is a lot to spend on a player who played like he did in the second half of last season.

However, if he can play like the first half of last season then we've got a quality 21 year old.

are you basing that opinion on watching him, reading the papers or 20 second clips on the fl show?

only games i saw him was against saints. seem to remember him taking our fullbacks apart in both games particularly the away game in the last 4 months of the season. either way he can play both left and right so would add versatiltiy to our squad, much needed pace and a more direct threat.

I think you need to lower your expectations. I know you wanted sigurdsson and other players we would never get. But as a club tht has just been promoted, phillips would be a good signing IMO

Young, quick, talented. Can play either wing or either side of a front three

Ticks so many of the boxes for the missing wide player we want

A combination of those and the forums. There is a good reason why they'd prefer to keep Ince.

And on here. OxO is never worth £15m
Walcott would not be wanted back and is just a sprinter

Hope not. I think one of the highlights of pre season has been how well Punch and Clyne work together. I'm hoping Matt will fill in on the left enabling JR to be used more effectively in a more central role.

On the question between Phillips and Ince, I am satisfied that our club will have done the necessary scouting and made their own decision on which player would fit better into our team, rather than read Blackpool's mongboard for their information.

From the bits of Pre-season I've seen I really don't get the fuss about Puncheon, still not good enough in my opinion.

Lee over Sharp and Lambert? I'm glad you're not the manager. Guly disregarded once again I see.
Still, we don't even know if Phillips will sign at this stage.

And to think we could have had Phillips for c£500k 2 years ago if Cortese had treated Wycombe with a bit more respect.
