School Reunions

Anyone been to a school reunion? What was it like compared to how you thought it would be?

My year is having one and it’s been 22 years since I left school. I have no intention of going, I’ve not seen any of these people since school and most of the people that are going seem to be the group of people who thought they were something special & in the cool kids group at school. I always kept myself under the radar at school not being cool but also not being a nerd either. Now (if I’m honest) I get some satisfaction from seeing that the people that thought they were cool back then haven’t amounted to much, but I can’t be bothered to go, I've managed to go over 20 years without feeling the need to see these people so why bother now? (it’s also on a Saturday when we have football at St Mary’s)

Just wondered if anyone had been to any? Waht happened? (I imagine it'll just being people comparing their children!)

Actually, we did have a 20 year one up in Cadnam and a mate of mine hooked up with another in our class and they're now married. Considering said mate was a good looking bastard who had spent the last 20 years knee deep in poontang it was a surprising turn of events to say the least (and he's been happy and faithful for 3 years now, a 23 year record :-))

Point being, I had a really nice evening and regretted not going to the 10 year one when I basically said I couldn't be arsed for the same reasons as you mentioned. Go, take a mate, if it's **** just go to a different pub.

Trouble is, of the people going that weren't tools (which just seems to be the girls at the moment) the ones I see info from on facebook are the kind of people who upload pictures of their meals each week and feel the internet needs to know they have bought new school shoes for their children. Plus I'd miss Newcastle home game!

Still mates with a lot of people from school. Think we've had 15 and 20 year reunions, and it's not really a big deal. Most of us can still get in contact with each other easily.

Not sure I'd agree with angelman's sentiment that the dickheads are still dickheads. Yeah, that'll be true in some cases, but a lot of people did stupid sh!t when they were at school through pure immaturity. That 16-20 period sharpens a lot of people up. Not all, unfortunately.

Went to one a good few years ago, nice to meet folks have a bit of a giggle and reminisce. But as th evening wore on it was just like being at school again with the little cliques from all those years ago surfacing.
What pleased me was being a bit of billy no mates at school (which before the Trolls out there rub their hands with the thought of fresh meat, friends I have now are stunned at) I could just get up and walk away from sad individuals.
The best part was one of the lads who was bit of a gentle giant, quiet boy, when at School had found his own little niche in life and been immensely successful at it. The folks greasing up to him were amazing, but best of all he was able to give them the same cold shoulder they afforded him, except they just could not see it: very amusing to watch from across the room.

I'm friends with the people I liked at school, in the most part the rest are either dead or in jail. If I want to hear about the other ones kids, there is always facebook.

I talk to the (fairly small) group of people I liked at school on Facebook if I want to. I'm not really bothere about seeing the rest if I'm honnest, although I probably would go to a reunion out of idle curiosity. See if any hotties have turned into fat *****rs and vice versa.

Lets be hinest, most of the folk you actually liked at school - really liked, you will have stayed in touch with - one or two you really liked but somehow did loose track of you found on Friends Reunited in the late 90s or Facebook since

The folks that mostly go to these things are either those desperate to lord it up and show how successful they have been, or those that want to cop off with an ex or desperate housewife

When I looked up 'where are they now' on Friends Reunited way back, all the 'in crowd, cool kids' at school were all still living locally, and not done a great deal, you never liked them when at school, so why do you think you will like them now?

And yes, the cliche is true, the hot babes from school will all be 'large', unhappily married with 3 kids - the quiet shy girls that no one was interested in, who did well in class etc, all went off to Uni, blossomed into attractive women and would not be seen dead at a school reunion!

... Or am I being too cynical?

I heart hearing about my ex classmates kids. Two In particular are experts at updating every five minutes with fascinating stories about how their 3 year old has just fallen over, their 5 year old won't stop crying and between them are making sooooooo much mess, LOL. Th highlight of the day though is when I share their sheer delight at the post 7pm updates - "washing up done, kids in bed, time for WINE!!!!!!" I think one of them must also now be a single mum and recently been dumped as she is quite fat and always posting pictures up about how real men respect women and not to care about people that treat you bad. I really don't understand how any man couldnt respect someone with some much wit and charisma.

I went to one a while back against my better judgement but someone from work persuaded me to go. It was OK, I suppose. I managed to meet an old friend who I'd not seen in a while and also managed to **** my ex from school. On the downside, I did have to kill someone with a pen in school toilets.

Thats why I dont do facebook and cant understand why anyone over about 24 does. School reunions every 20 years are a bit too frequent for me, daily updates are just a waste of their life and mine.

At first I was worried that everybody would think "look at that fat baldy loser", but as the night wore on, there were a lot fatter a lot balder and a lot of people in even worse jobs than me. Some of the chicks were minging, they hadn't aged well at all.

By the end of the night I quite enjoyed it and was glad I went. Some bird came wandering round asking for everybodies contact details, "what for?" I asked "for next year" came the reply. I said "you're having a laugh, give me a call for the 50th year one and I'll come along" (fingers crossed I'm still about). My mate was even more scathing told her, "There was a reason I didn't contact you ****s in 30 years , I'm certainly not coming back next year".

Did one about three or four years ago. Not the greatest night ever but not the worst. Unfortunately after 20 years of not seeing these people all you've got left is small talk and that gets a bit boring. Half the people there I couldn't remember either although that's probably early onset alzchei... alzchime... whatever it's called kicking in. I didn't go to the last one though and don't really regret that.

This, along with those ghastly Prom Nights, is a foul American tradition that has no place here in a properly mannered country. But I can picture the horrific scene in my minds eye if I ever were to lose control of my senses and go to one:

I walk through the door nervously late as usual, a familiar feeling of impending doom making unwelcome inroads into my oh-so-fragile sense of confidence. I see a group of successful middle aged people in a huddle ahead of me. The conversation instantly stops as they turn to stare at me. My mouth runs dry as fear takes hold and I suddenly discover I can't remember any of their names .... what is even worse they seem to have completely forgotten me ! Only now does the awful truth dawn on me - every bloody one of them has more hair/money/teeth than I do. I scream in terror and flee back to the carpark only to find a horrible git I could never abide has just parked his posh new Audi A8 next to my ancient rust covered Mondeo *shudders*
