Thread: New Season, new songs.

  1. #1

    Default New Season, new songs.

It's a longshot but I thought we might try and do something useful on this board. After watching Morgan's recent interview, Billy's tweets and Rickies on field reactions to his chant it's clear to see that the positive noise made by our fans has a positive impact upon the players. Some on here appear to be focussed on chasing after a high quality, original chant that would make it on Broadway, the reality is that any song that's player based is infinitely better than nothing.

On this thread we should try and come up for a song for three players who we expect to feature heavily this season. Morgan Schneiderlin, Nathaniel Clyne and Gaston Ramirez. The following is a possible model for picking the favourite song for each.

    1. Make up your own lyrics & add which tune it's sung to/ or copy in one you've seen in another thread.

    2. If you see a chant/song you think could work quote it and say so. Please don't troll by quoting and being negative, if the song isn't popular noone will quote it and it will be forgotten, negativity will only lead to silence.

    3. The mods or a full member can pick out the top couple of songs for each player and have a poll where people can vote for their favourite.

    4. Hopefully the eyes on here that go to games will be able to get the top song started like the SRL one was. May need to be a sticky for a couple of weeks.

    5. Who knows it might be the difference between another season in the PL or relegation...

My favoutie from the Morgan thread.

So here's to you Morgan Schneiderlin, we all love you more than you will know, oh oh oh,
We'll fight for you Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton boys are with you when you play, hey hey hey,

I can't picture what part of the song the "na na na"s fit into?

All the songs I have heard this season from opposition teams have been poor.

Wigan: Do the Shaun Maloney (to the tune of 'do the okey cokey')
Man Utd: Ohhh Robin Van Persie (yawn!)
    & my personal favourite...

Wigan: Di Santo! Oh! (to the tune of 'gold' by spandau Ballet... Truly terrible... Maybe we could replace Di Santo with Do Prado ;-) )

Saw this one elsewhere clearly to the tune of Walk The Line by Johnny Cash.

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
    Because you're Clyne,
    Nathaniel Clyne.

There was a fair few people singing Morgan's name to the tune of the old Ruud Van Nistleroy song; 'Morgan Schniederlin Na Na Na Na Na, Morgan Schniederlin Naaa Na Na Na Na Na'.

For those with older memories this is to the tune of "brown girl in the ring" by Boney M. I think it could work.

I'm thinking something for Morgan to the tune of the Adams family sounds appealing.

Had the bloody tune in my head since the game, very catchy/annoying (delete as applicable).

As opposed to singing songs based on
    A 1960s Beach Boys song,
The hymn "Guide Me Oh thou Great Redeemer"
    The Hallelujah Chorus by Handel
    An opera song from Rigoletto
    A cockney singalong tune
A Christmas song most popular in 1946
    A Cuban patriotic song
and indeed a song about Noah's Ark.

But no, the Spiderman song would be ridiculous.

The difference being that the spiderman theme tune would sound ridiculous.

So what is it that makes "Guantanemera", "Kumbaya", "Knees Up Mother Brown","Winter Wonderland" and "The Animals Went In Two By Two" so massively credible then ?

Hard to quantify that homes but I make Saint_clark right, there's something too cheerful and gay bout that spiderman ditty. It'd be like doing a "happy birthday" chant.

You know what I reckon it's cos spiderman is like all and in a good football song you need some nice long o to sing all loud and aggressive!

Before we start learning some new and wonderful songs, can we start with OWTS. It used to boom round The Dell and it was guanteed to get everyone singing. Lets get that back to its rightful place and reclaim it as a Saints sone. Not Spurs, Stoke or anyother ****ing imposters.

OWTS sounded good on TV. Get the 'brown girl in the ring' going for Morgan and Ramirez runs down the wing for me for Gaston. That will do for now, our fans can't cope with too much!

When i was at the reading festival the other day i was thinking that one song by the vaccines "Wreckin Bar" is prime for football chanting. I think it was on Fifa so i spose a lot of people know it or whatever, it goes:

Lallana Lallana La La La La Lalllana

    and repeat

    clap clap clap

During the United game I was trying to get my Gazzaniga/NWA Straight outta Compton mash up going but it weren't catching on. Perhaps cos he weren't playing i spose. Also cos I was watching at home in Birmingham.

Did I mention I've moved to Birminghams? It sucks up here generally but the b!tches is slack!
