Then we could have 'I'm sorry, But Nigel just has to go.'
Closely followed by 'Wanted. One manager with Prem Experience.'
And finally, 'So long Nige, and thanks for all the promotions'.
In April of 2009 I rushed to take my daughter to her first football game. I bought her a scarf, a hat and a Saints top. My wife and I weren't getting on that day and she asked me why I was doing such a stupid thing and wasting money. I told her, 'I want my little girl to see Southampton play before they don't exist any more'. She just nodded her head, and my little girl had the time of her life on that day, but didn't understand that we were going down. That's when we were at our deepest ebb. The club was going down and also going out. Or so many thought.
We got Markus, and Nicola and also Pardew for a while, who got us some silverware but started a trend. As ****ty as the League 1 was, we started going to games thinking, 'we could win this.' We paid 1 million pounds for an overweight, not bad by League 1 standard, forward, bought a defender for 1.2 million. But didn't stop there, in came Dean Hammond, Radhi Jaïdi, Graeme Murty, Dan Harding , David Connolly , Michail Antonio , Papa Waigo, Lee Barnard, Danny Seaborne,Jon Otsemobor and Jason Puncheon. We started with - 10 points and got within 7 of a play off place. We started to actually to like winning.
Then came Nigel Adkins, with the departure of Pardew, (bye bye Al, and thanks for all the fish). We started well and actually thought at Christmas, 'Well F me, we could win this league.' We came second, but Promoted.
Into the Championship. Here comes the big shock, Can Rickie play at this level? We'll be lucky to stay mid table. We started well and actually thought at Christmas, 'Well F me, we could win this league.' We came second, again but Promoted. Always the Bridemaid never the Bride.
So here we are, in the big time. Not 'Back in the Big Time'. Nope. That Southampton is dead. Gone. Ceased to exist. This is the dawning of a new age. An age where we cry, and whine, and moan, and want Nigel gone. Why? Cause we wanna win everything. Nah, nah, nah, it's not fair. Nigel must go, and all the team. We must spend in excess of 400 million, today, and have players for January. F the club, f the Liebherrs, they should bankrupt themselves and give us more and more money, so we can win win win.
Spoilt. We've been spoilt. Rotten. Because we have been winning and used to winning, and we want more.
But guess what? We aint going to do that at the moment, because we aint a big fish in a small pond anymore, we're swimming in the sea with the bigger fish and the sharks, and it's going to take time before we can fight back, but there are some equally small, and medium size ones we can have a crack at.
Remember, for the last three seasons our first team has remained pretty much the same. Now it has changed.
Remember, 3 years ago we were told that in 5 YEARS we would be in the Prem. If it took us that long, would you have moaned? Doubt it. Probably would have had a better team than we have now.
Remember, we are playing against teams who already have their Manager with Premiership experience, who only need one or two signings. We are playing against teams who are already teams, and have been since we started climbing back. And we are playing against teams who are Already here and didn't have to fight to get here.
3 years ago a number of players thought they would never better themselves and get to the prem, or get back to the prem, and yet here they are. Some thought they would never taste English football at the very top level. Yet here they are. 3 Years ago there was an ex Physio who thought that one day, in the distant future he may get here. and here he is.
And all you lot want to do is kick them when they are down. Our team, ( the whole 25 of them as a unit) and our manager have 7 games experience in this league. Anmd we are so spoilt, we are whinging after 7 games that we just aint good enough. Yeh, wel so f-ing what? We can only get better. Or go back to where we came from and have another go, perhaps this time after winning the Championship.
Well, if you don't like it, because you are spoilt, I suggets you go and support Pompey and Bompey. And I don't say that to be a ****. They have hte oportunity to have the sort of rollercoaster ride we have just had, which was fun! Wasn't it? Because from here on out, it aint going to be much fun with us for a while.
( and if you are reading this and you didn't start at the top and read the whole thing, the paragraph above is for you, bacause this whole thread is about you)
