Long Balls

Saw some stats posted on twitter about the number of long balls we've made in each game so far this season and it's quite interesting

Man City (away) 25
Wigan (home) 44
Man Utd (home) 41
Arsenal (away) 39
Aston Villa (home) 58
Everton (away) 34
Fulham (home) 43

So interestingly, we're playing fewer long balls away from home. Interesting as you'd assume that at home, we'd be a bit more patient in our build up play whereas we'd be quicker to get it up to the front men away. Anyone got any explanation for why we're being slightly more direct at home, and should we play more long balls away from home (considering we've lost every game away)?

Interesting that our only win was with the most long balls. The thing with those stats is that it doesn't tell you what a 'long ball' is. We're probably playing narrower away so therefore our players are closer together. Also I would guess we've made more passes when we're at home, therefore there will be more log balls, a better stat would be a percentage of our passes that are 'long balls'

Or is it just that we've had A LOT less of the ball generally away to City, Arsenal and Everton?

We have used hoof against hoof teams, Fulham and villa are both terrible hoof teams (and the mess against Wigan was the same sort of deal).

Terrible as we score most our goals away from hoof.

Pretty sure they class "long ball" as any pass over 25 yards.

If you look at the the other long ball thread - http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthrea...es-it-the-most those numbers are still low compared to the rest of the legaue.

The most we have played (58 ) compares to the average amount Man Utd play and is the 6th lowest, and that's the highest. it's also to do with how much of the ball we have, the Manchesters and Arsenal would have had a lot more of the ball so we played less passes generally which means less long balls.
