Transfers (rumours) thread

would be interested in Connor Wickham given he is young and was decent before sunderland and given a decent run in a team as proven I think until last month with Wednesday can score goals.

He's trash. We've got Gallagher in that young/tall striker mode, we certainly don't need to block his progress with rubbish like Wickham. We need to be careful with adding players for the sake of adding them in the summer, it's only worth doing if they're better and different to what we have. i.e sign a CB who is better than Fonte, a GK who is better than Boruc, a ST who is better than Lambert etc.....and the starters from this year evolve into the backup. That's the way it should be done, I don't want to see us buying loads of ''backup'' players, that's for sure, as that's a sure fire way to create a squad of trash.

I agree with what you're saying, we did it in the summer to an extent, but we could improve the overall quality of the squad with some lesser names too. I'd take players like Shaun Maloney, Nathan Redmond, Callum McManaman or Nathan Dyer. Anyone of these on the bench on Saturday would have been useful I think.

Gary Roberts of Chesterfield would be worth a look.

A 30 year old League 2 player? Do you not think we should be aiming a lot higher? We have academy products out on loan playing at a higher level than Roberts.

At least Lambert was 27 when we got him and scored 30+ goals for Bristol Rovers at a level above where Roberts is currently playing.

Roberts is better than Isgrove ever will be. Was excellent for Huddersfield a few years back and would be available cheaply which will be a consideration for the board.

Who are your suggestions?

Are you going to do an "in" list and prove your non biased nature?

To be fair there aren't that many 'in' stories kicking about at the moment. Clubs and agents, meanwhile, are planting stories about our players all over the show. Doesn't mean there will be more outs than ins or that anything published will actually end in a transfer.

...but yeah, a round-up would be appreciated

Sent scouts to watch Virgil Van Djik of Celtic allegedly

Are they our new feeder club, could sell us the GK too :-)

They give us crap more like and chuckle.

Fox, Hooiveld and £12 Million for Wanyama, they got the better side of the deals on all 3 occasions.

- Fox was signed from Burnley

- Fox and Hooiveld played key roles in getting Saints promoted to the Premier League

- Wanyama is limited technically, but a very effective defensive barrier in front of the centre backs

Oh the old Fox played a key part in our promotion, did he? Did he really? I remember him being ****e back then as well, Hooiveld is poor as why would an SPL club release him the same (my point) as Fox? As for Wanyama we should have bought a £10 Million brick or large rock, they could probably pass better as well.

Fox and Hooiveld are out of their depth in the Premier League but both were signed when Saints were in the Championship and both were first choice players in a promotion season. Both were very useful that season.

Correct, his passing isn't great. But if he keeps things simple like for example he did against Villa on Saturday and makes short passes to the more technically gifted players then Wanyama is a very useful asset in front of the centre backs.

I've given you another bite, have fun with it.

To be fair, we bought Fox off Burnley, Hooiveld did a great job in the championship which he was bought to do, and Wanyama gives the back 4 great cover IMO.

Plus Van Dijk is very highly thought of by respected football people
