Thread: Team for tomorrow?

  1. Default Team for tomorrow?

Ok, lets have a thread that moves away from all the talk about off-the-field issues.

What do you think the starting 11 will/should be for tomorrow?

For me, I'd go with the following . . .

    ----------------------- Davis ----------------------

    Cork ------- Lancashire -------- Pearce -------- Skacel

    ---------- Schneiderlin ------ Euell -----------------

    McGoldrick ---------- Lallana ------------- Surman

    ------------------- Robertson ----------------------

    Subs:

    Bialkowski, Perry, Wotton, Gobern, Pekhart

Not bad at all, although would prefer Perry instead of Lancashire and maybe have DMG and Lallana switch roles during the game, as long as it confuses the opposition more than us.

  5. Default Team for Wolves?

I was thinking exactly the same after I'd written that post.

On paper, that's a half decent side and you'd expect us to be alot higher up the table than we currently are.

Unfortunately though, games aren't played on paper!

playing DmG on the right it would leave cork to get slaughtered by TWO left hand side players from wolves..

Our problem tomorrow defensively will be dealing with Chris Iwelumo! I think JP will seriously consider putting Paul Wotton on to man mark him. I think he would probably bully Pearce, Lancashire and Perry! Midfield is fine with Schneiderlein coming back and young Lallana playing in the hole. Up front I would love to see two strikers, but think Mcg will be played wide right and Robertson as the striker. On the bench Thomson and Paterson before Gobern and Pekhart.

Should be an interesting game tomorrow, David and Goliath springs to mind!!

JP obviously sees Euell's best position as in the hole behind McGoldrick, who is undroppable from his striker's role, apparently. I reckon the team will probably be:

    ----------------Davis---------------
    Cork----Lancashire--Pearce----Skacel
    --------Schneiderlin--Surman--------
    Lallana----------------------Gobern
    -----------------Euell---------------
    --------------McGoldrick-------------

But I don't necessarily agree with that. I'd put Perry in at the back, if fit, and wouldn't have DMG up front as he scores very infrequently from there. Trouble is noone else who's started there has done well either.

Maybe - clutching at straws here - we need to think of the striker as a non-scoring Heskey-type of player, so that DMG can pick his runs on goal.

To borrow a line from Morrissey. What difference does it make?

    ---------- Schneiderlin ------ Euell -----------------

    -Lallana ------------------------------------Surman-

    ---------------BWP---------------------------------
    -------------------------McGoldrick -----------------

Subs: Forecast, James, Lancashire/Wotton, Robertson, Gobern.

Means another change of the back four I know. Lallana and BWP to move around though someone will need to cover Kightly who, I believe, plays wide left for Wolves.

  14. Default

    Davis
    Cork Lancashire Pearce Surman

    Lallana Schniederlin Euell Skacel

    Robertson DMG

Would have like to have seen White instead of DMG, but he has gone out on loan.

    Gasmi on bench if fit.

Actually, the team I'd like to see would line up 4-4-2 to give the fullbacks some decent cover.
    -------------Davis---------------
    Cork-----Perry--Pearce----Skacel
    Euell--Schneiderlin--Lallana--Surman
    --------BWP--McGoldrick----------

subs: Bart, Lancashire, Gobern, Robertson, Thomson

It'll never happen under this clueless coach, though.

I would like to see us line up as:

    -------------Davis----------------
    Cork---Svensson---Pearce---Skacel
    Lallana--Schniederlin--Euell--Surman
    ---McGoldrick---Pekhart/Robertson--

However if JP/Lowe continue to maintain there negative 4-2-2-1-1 then i expect the team to be:

    ------------Davis---------------
    Cork--Pearce--Svensson--Skacel
    ------Schiederlin--Surman-------
    McGoldrick--------------Euell----
    --------------Lallana------------
    ------------Robertson-----------

With that amount of firepower we must be able to score a few. [I wanted to add a smilie here but I can only use 10 in a post...]

I expect the team to be:

    Davis

    Cork Lancashire Pearce Skacel

    Schneiderlin Surman

    Lallana Euell Gobern

    DMG

That's what I'd go for, although I am expecting to see some pointless formation with DMG up front on his own, our best goal scoring midfield threat at LB and 90 minutes of nothing but purest a*se gravy.

I don't think Saints are allowed to play 5 players with experience at this level in the side with our revolutionary youth approach :-(

I'm beginning to think that despite the ball skill, there is no end product from Lallana. Gobern is very lightweight. Definitely Pekart and Robertson on the bench.

We have to get forward in numbers much quicker and much more importantly get numbers back goalside when a move breaks down.

It appears to me that only the players immediately on the ball move at pace the rest just trot. All the players have to start busting a gut, and sprint up in support and sprint to get back goalside.

This is the reason we are not getting enough attackers into the box and getting enough players back to stop the defence getting outnumbered and to enable us to give close cover rather than loose cover.

I can't believe anyone includes Wotton, even on the bench!

So you've got Saint Richmond at right back, with Um Pahars in front of him. Do you think that's a combination that's going to work?

Very sensible idea, John...but let us hope for the first time this season that JP can pick his own side without the intervention by our Director of Football.
Go on Lowey let us see what JP can do on his own...

Enjoy a good result tomorrow John...A Saints win by a side selected solely by our coach JP.
