DM: Mauricio Pochettino has failed this season

Pochettino walked into a squad of good players at St Mary’s and has done well with them in the Premier League. But when you look back on the season that pathetic effort in a winnable Cup tie will be the awkward moment the manager will want to avoid mentioning.

Difficult to argue with that -

I've always thought he'd make an excellent contributor to this forum.

Maybe when we need a knew troll?

He is more of a wind up than they have on talksport (is he on talksport come to think about it?) The bloke positively delights in other teams disappointments. It's no surprise that since united have started winning a few games he has had to turn his eyes elsewhere.

He's very good at it though, gets lots if bites including Jamie Carragher. He is a master of his art and I'm a big fan.

It was disappointing that we changed the team, however we should have beaten them with the team put out and Lambert missing from a yard out obviously didn't help. A lot of the blame has to go on the players in that game.

It was one of those things, it is unlikely to happen next season (unless in European contention/threat of relegation), I think people need to get over it.

Adrian Durham is a numpty as well.

The players on the pitch lost that match against a weakened Sunderland side who are currently bottom of the premier league. The team Mopo put out was good enough to win that game. Lallana and Lambert both missed clear cut chances they would have converted 9/10. It's football, it's the way it goes sometimes.

But surely Mopo picked his side without knowing the Sunderland side?

Mopo has failed to beat Sunderland in 5 attempts (W0 D3 L2) so why did he suddenly think a weakened Saints side could win, when he's failed to beat them with a full strengh team?

Why weaken the team at all? we had nothing to play for in the league.....

He messed up & I agree 100% with Adrian Durham

pfff, we are still the FA cup scapegoats then... it was poor journalism after the defeat to sunderland, and still is. Both teams made a number of changes, and it was an awful game of football, and the press jumped on the loser as the bad guy of the FA cup. It is not the fa cup is insignificant, it is just a lesser competition these days.

If we take hull, and say the don't beat arsenal, they will have made about £2.5m in prize money and they will qualify for europe. going on current positions, and last years prize money (this years is considerably higher anyway) the financial difference between hull in 13th and us in 8th is £3.8m.

Until the fa cup has a bigger incentive, be it money or a champions league place, it will be considered less significant, and with some teams playing 60+ games a season now from round 3 you could see your self playing 6 90 minute games and 2 120 minutes games.

had we won that game sunderland would have been branded as the bad guys of the fa cup anyway, journalism is dead and football journalism has rotted through. I actually came across 2 articles this morning that said luke shaw is a step closer to signing for man yoo because.... he's now following phil neville on twitter! and being a club outside the current top 7 no one really knows us so much of what is written is crap anyway

since we got knocked out of the fa cup, we've gained a league place, and beaten our biggest rivals 4-0, which should have been 12-0. our season is over more to the fact of the chasm we find ourselves in between 7th and 10th, we don;t have much to play for in the league, and a lot less than the teams we have been facing in the last few weeks.

what a surprise, one of the Usual Suspects turning up to retrospectively 'tell us so'

Think he was just pointing out the double standards of saying how awful the daily mail is and how we shouldn't listen to it and then swallowing everything it says because it says something we want to hear. It happens on here frequently.

Do you think he should pay for this mistake with his job?

But the point is for a mid-table Premier League side, with nothing to play for in the league, surely the FA CUp should become our priority?

he points out something like this all the time, in fact his whole posting method seems to be based on retrieving previous threads and banging people over the head with them, screaming "told you so... you thought this back then, but look at you now..."

And its funny how there is generally not an opinion from him, just hindsight. When was the last time he contributed something that actually formed an opinion of his own, rather than dragging up anything that was said incorrectly.

Him, GS and BS (appropriate) arent fans at all, they are on here with their own little petty agendas, each one is different but in the main, these people arent fans, probably been to about three games this season between all of them. Which will be responded with "Oh, we're playing the better fan are we...?", in which the answer is yes but not just on games attended. Because they're not even Saints fans', let be honest, retracting on my previos statement perhaps; Turkish's most personal opinion lately was his ghastly praise of Man Utd, BS supports Everton and GS, well he never leaves his bedroom.

**** people, **** fans.

To say he has failed is plain wrong imo. Has he made mistakes? sure, managers everywhere make mistakes. In hindsight would we have played a different team vs Sunderland (may not have even mattered our luck against them!) or used to Osvaldo money differently? Probably, but that's just it, hindsight.

I think most would agree we have made real strides this season in developing a style of play, pushing through our academy talent, our players (and our club in turn) gaining widespread recognition including national call ups, being in pursuit of tying our best ever finish and coming through what could have been a very turbulent time with NC's departure in relatively good shape.

Mistakes have been made, problems have been found but, short of maybe the likes of Ancelotti, MP looks like a decent bet to improve us next year too.

The point is that the team he put out were good enough to beat Sunderland. The team played pants.

Any team with KD and Jos in it isn't necessarily good enough to win anything. That's the problem with keeping old duffers like KD hanging around, you give them game time and they aren't good enough, same as Hooieveld this season. Whoever gave Davis a contract until 2016 has done us a vast disservice. Waste of money that should be being used on a real understudy for Boruc, instead of that we have 3 half baked duffers who probably wouldn't make one decent keeper between them.

Love how people trot out all the old "lost 5 of the last 8" to make their point but then expected us to have won 4 of 4 to win the cup (or 3 of 4 so that they can put their grandson on their knee and tell them about the 2 times we lost to Arsenal in a cup final).
