Will need 8 players. If 5 are decent then that might do, much less and its going to be close.

The absolute key, is that we need a striker who will score PL goals from day one.

Probably sign some guy from Eredivisie who gets found out at this level.

We will get relegated unless we get a good striker who scores 15 league goals next season. Not the time for gambles.

Currently have barely anyone who actually has anything like a goal record.

Here you go again. You must be related to Alpine surely? Do us all a favour will you and wait until we see who comes in before you post any more of this negative nonsense.

Ings, Pellé, Rojo, Blind, Ochoa and Anthony Martial (French) please, plus stick a cheeky bid in for Shaqiri, Valbuena and then just a random Liverpool player to see how they deal with being the other side of paper talk!

No idea who we are going to get, although I have no doubt we will be buying new players and don't see any more after Lallana and Shaw going.

He's right tho ain't it, losing ur 3 top scorers in one window is v.gamble. We will need to be either v.clever or v.lucky with whoever comes in! If we end up more Wolfswinkle than Bony we could easily get in trouble.

Don't forget, we still have Billy Sharp!

Of course its right. Like if Liverpool sold Suarez and Sterling and then Sturridge was injured for ages.

If we scored 54 goals and only have 17 of them available next season, less once Osvaldo goes then it clearly suggests that area should be the first priority and that whoever comes in cannot fail.

Whoop, we get to watch a team of "oh yeah didn't he play for someone else united"'s next year.

I'd be happy to hear us sign any one at the moment. When's the tea lady's contract up?

Liverpool have made an enquiry but apparently there is a sticking point about possible add ons. They are baulking at our wanting an extra £5k for her to provide of Victoria Sponge every afternoon on the trolley.

So with adam looking likely to leave with shaw and Rickie I make that 3 strikers a keeper a centre back an attacking midfielder and a left back so far or am I missing something?

Before we sold anyone we needed:

GK x1+ (possibly 2; Davis and Gazzaniga not up to it)

LB x1+ (no cover for Shaw)

CB x1+ (as Hooiveld and Yoshida aren't up to it)

DM/CM/LM/RM x1+ (someone to replace Guly, and with Rodriguez injured)

ST x1+ (to replace Osvaldo and maybe Forte/Barnard/Mayuka/Sharp/whatever).

Since then we've sold a LB, an AM (soon), and a ST.

So by my reckoning we need

1-2 GK

1-2 LB

1-2 CB (plus a Lovren replacement if he goes)

2 MID

2-3 STR

Some of them may come from the academy, but I'm not sure (maybe Sims apart) we've got anyone else ready to step up yet. I genuinely don't understand the assumptions about Targett being ready.

I'm hoping for better things than Borini & Hernandez tbh! I'm prejudiced against Borini cos he seems light of goals. I'm prejudiced against Hernandez cos dwarf poacher strikers are v.unfashionable. Even the Mexicans think he's too wee to play lone striker.

Not so sure, gets messy and complicated. Especially Borini, as that would have messed up the sell on fee for Bournemouth.

But yeah, both very unlikely. I'm not even convinced Hernandez would be great starting every week, but he'd keep us up and that's all that matters.

I think a lot depends if we are going to with a '1' or '2' up top. Not convinced either are ideal as a lone striker... But both would be decent partner to Pelle as a partnership.

I worry about 2 up front full stop. No-one plays it, besides Man City at some sometimes. Think we'd be very short in midfield.

Only positives I see about 3-5-2 are Chambers at RCB, Clyne a good RWB, and plenty of good strong central mid options. Not sure Rodriguez or Ramirez would fit it either. Just not sure we'd be very creative. I mean the formation gets a bit easier when you have Sneijder, Robben and Van Persie in the team.

Yeah, I agree - 3-5-2 is quite a specialist formation.

I hope we stick with 4-5-1 / 4-3-3. Suits the current personnel - Wit that said, we can check back here again in a couple of weeks and we might have a totally different set of players to talk about.

I had a conversation about tactics with a fellow soton fan ... I speculated that, considering we play the "saints way" from academy up, drastic changes to our style of play seems unlikely.

But I have been wrong so often lately in regards to saints it is only a theory!

As for shopping list still too early to say but I like Redmond, Hughes, Rodriquez (swiss), Ings, Bony, Borini ... dream signings post wc would be Cuadrado, would love him across our front three, or Blind for lb but I admit both are unrealistic!

De Vrij to replace Lovren

Blind to replace Shaw

Tadic to replace Lallana

Pelle to replace Lambert

Money left over to buy Claise and Martins Ini.

Lose 4, gain 6.

Interseting wishlist, although I suspect Blind is out of our grasp.

For me its:

GK : 1 (Marshall, or Forster ?)

LB : 1 (Robertson or Tim Kolo ?)

CB : 2 ? (De Vrij, Martins Indi, or Van Dyke, also paper report re Caulker)

MF : 1 assuming no further transfers out but no idea who, other than Clasie although Tadic is rumoured on here, and a previous link to Grenier( might be good if Morgan stays)

Strikers : 2 Pelle & Ings , unless RK can persuade one of the Dutch kids such as Depay.

and there in lies the problem for the england national team non of which would help in the slightest and so it goes on and when teams such as ourselves do develope them we cant keep hold of them long enough to reap and silverware and rewards, only it seems financial and some high praise from other so called expert pundits.

At least 6 players from Krul, Shawcross, Caulker,Ricardo Rodriguez, Ings, Bony, Redmond,Griezmann

Griezmann is probably out of our league TBH. Caulker would be quality though, forget last season and look at how he did with Swansea a few years back - top quality.

Shawcross would cost too much and is a bit of a lumbering oaf to be honest. Rodriguez is my personal pick to replace Shaw...but reckon it will be Kolo.

Seems strange that RK is seemingly ok watching his team get raped. Concerned that we might end up with a team of dutch hopefuls finding their feet in the PL.

I think we're a bit more shrewd than that. Being a dutch manager doesn't mean he just signs dutch players by the way....he will have contacts all over the world. I'm sure RK has been briefed on these deals, because he's been told he will be able to reinvest the fees to replace the players that are going.

Personally, I believe Shaw and Lallana have been done for a while in all but signatures, I'm sure RK was aware when he got the job that they were not going to be around. The Lovren/Morgan/Cork/Fonte situations are slightly more interesting and RK may have a little more pull in that area.
