Thanks England. I'll remind you of what you've done when my country Northern Ireland starts bombing itself again. Thanks for thinking real hard about all the consequences

But that's sectarian violence and has nothing to do with the EU. Didn't stop until long after we joined the old EEC.

Just had to drive across town. The comments from the people interviewed on 5live were hilarious from a few who voted remain.

the nation is just too stupid to have been trusted with this

Racists and loons have taken over

The country will regress to a racist dump that it was in the 1960s

Tory scum have ruined this country

how could people vote for Boris Johnson

The result is in no way any sort of mandate to go through with this

Sturgeon should be Prime Minister

etc etc.

summed up by this article.....no way would there have been the bellyaching had we voted to remain.

I am actually going to get an Irish passport so my English son can have free movement in Europe and all the benefits that gives him. Again I am a unionist. My family are lodge members and I will be opting for dual citizenship to remain European. Northern Ireland voted to remain. Scotland voted to remain. This is the end if the union. Well done little Englanders you got your wish.

They hate democracy and free speech when it doesn't fit with their view of the world. They still don't realise the real world is different to their little bubble.

I'd say that is true of most brexiters - too young, rich, complacent and devoid of historical insight to appreciate the benefits of postwar stability.

A ridiculous post. Just hope other posters don't think this is representative of people from Northern Ireland. Like the decision or hate it, but this is democracy in action. Somebody let me know when the hyperbole and hysteria subsides

The bubble got it wrong. If the EU want to make it difficult we need to learn to play hardball. If they don't want to export to us good luck with that. 13m didn't even bother to vote. 1.3m didn't vote in Scotland. If Scotland want out, thanks, we'll have our subsidies back where they belong, and good luck with that.

Nobody from the government remain campaign should be allowed anywhere near the exit talks. Theresa May the useless Home Secretary who put her career first should hang her head in shame and disappear but she won't. Totally unsuitable to lead the country out of the EU.

especially those in hartlepool and south wales

Yep, you make my point perfectly. You've only ever known a liberal democratic international order, not a continent by ravaged hatred, prejudice and war. So it's easy to play infantile identity politics without any sense of historical responsibility. That goes for Hartlepool and South Wales just as it does any other city or region.

Obviously no problem taking the English subsidies. If NI wants to go, go. SF talking about a United Ireland maybe that's the way to go.

Yes we voted to have our own government not a federal Europe, as you have your own parliament although it seems you want to be governed by the South , Scotland has its own government but a vote on Europe doesn't mean they want to be alone, infact they voted to stay in both elections.

Go make your own decisions if that's your destiny or rather become part of a Federal Europe where you will continue to have decisions made for you by 27 other countries, but don't bellyache that the English won a vote and made a decision to back their own governance in their own country , perhaps the England should vote on whether we should exit the union, the Irish Welsh and Scots could stay together .

Did I say that? Just to say that by historical standards you've been spoilt rotten and take for granted the benefits of international cooperation. All I do know is that Putin must be absolutely rejoicing this morning.

Presumably the £350 million will be given back to the people from whom it was initially taken.

The question is will this be as a tax cut or an increase in the threshold?

They should give it away to one person through a electoral roll lottery every Thursday afternoon.

If I won it, I'd definitely spend it on building a hospital.

Me too. My Dad was from NI and I'll get an Irish passport for myself and my kids. I want free access in Europe and for my kids to have that opportunity when they're older.

Jibes about subsidies are a bit ironic from the elderly, healthcare and pension sucking Brexit generation.

It's interesting how the Tories won the election on the promise of economic stability from Dave and George yet they have inadvertently destroyed our economy in 24 hours by believing they'd get the vote they wanted. Some feat.

He is not wrong, everything has gone down the crapper but at a faster rate since 2012. The generous social security system is crumbling under the weight of the demand and the whole set up is now a tinder box waiting for the fatal spark.

Now that all the financial crashes have turned out to be nonsense, according to the BBC, it's all down to Mark Carney's speech

Thank God for Mark Carney.

He's saved us from Armageddon, apparently.

He polls at around 11% in the satisfaction polls. He is an utter idiot who should never have been elected. We would have been better off with the womanising Strauss Kahn if we had to have a socialist at all. Hollande has never held public office before and is just a bumbling idiot who sways with the wind whichever way it's going. He is a constant popularity seeker, which is kind of strange because no French president before him has ever been as unpopular.

I feel for you. I had made a couple of short visits to Ireland but last September my wife and I made a grand tour going clockwise around the coast from Rosslare to Larne and we were very smitten by both countries. What really impressed me was the total absence of any border between the two states and how easy it was to move between them. I can fully understand why you and Buctootim would consider getting an Irish passport and I only wish I could have the same opportunity. I wish you and your folk all the best for the future and I hope that all works out ok for you.

Strange how the FTSE is only down about 3.7% today and yet the CAC 40 (french index) is off by over 8%.

Looks like the financial market meltdown predicted by some is happening, but not where they thought.

I understand that it's French banks that are being hit by massive share price losses. Wonder why that is then.

Perhaps it's because they'll have to ante up more than expected for all the bail outs that have been promised now that we won't have any part of it in the near future.

What, you mean the healthcare and pensions that most of us contributed towards throughout our working lives?

Wes, thats exactly why you're pretty universally marked down as ignorant. You have contributed nothing to your current healthcare or pension. There is no big pot of money saved up with your name on it.

When you were working you paid a much smaller level of taxation to pay for a much smaller level of provision for the people who were retired and sick then. Now, as Carney says, you are reliant on the generosity of strangers - mostly young people who got none of the baby boomer benefits, pay 45% of income on rent, have stagnating incomes and are often worse off than the people they are supporting. .

Dunno, its odd. I watched a Forbes programme a couple of months ago and they were talking about the risk of Brexit casting a pall of uncertainty over global equities. I was surprised it had that wide reaching effect

To be precise the FTSE 250 and property trusts are down 8-9%. Unlike the FTSE 100, those companies are smaller and much more domestically focussed.

Well it seems that thse markets went up quite a bit this week on encouraging opinion polls and now they've found out that if it's not as the Sun says it ain't going to happen. I mean they must spend millions on opinion polls and stuff in the finance industry when all you have to do to know the outcome of any given UK election is spend a quid on The Sun.

Not quite. Specifically they largely recovered the ground they lost over the preceding couple of weeks when leave was surging in the polls.

So Jimmy Crankie wants another Scottish referendum because people in England voted to leave.

I seem to remember the SNP promising that Scottish MP's wouldnt vote on things that only affected England. Well you didn't keep that promise and now the shoe is on the other foot, suck it up buttercup.

Sources within Morgan Stanley say it has already begun the process of moving about 2,000 of its London-based investment banking staff to Dublin or Frankfurt. And it has a taskforce in place.

It'll be the first of many. At present many companies have the UK as their European HQ. There will be a lot of job losses as companies move operations and downgrade us to a national office. Friend of mine is a lean manufacturing consultant. He knows of several clients who paused investment pending the decision and will now likely cancel.
