The future of Kelvin?

Think his contract is up at the end of this season. Would be suprised if they offered him another one, but then again they offered him a decent deal before at a suprising point after he has been dropped a few times, so not beyond the realms of possibility as a third keeper.

Surely though, this season is the last of his playing days, but would be stupid not to try and retain him in some capacity, probably within the Academy at this stage to develop experience.

Thoughts on what would be a good next step for the veteran stopperlad?

Playing for Eastleigh to link up with Dan Harding....

Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in some capacity in the academy HTBH or maybe he is looking forward to long (long) comfortable retirement that many of us could only dream of?

Harding said on Solent the other day that he is best pals with Kelv so he may possibly want to play another year at a lower level. Although would be a shock after the PL lifestyle.

Kelvin is rich and secure for life and whilst a commendable servant in no way do we owe him a role for the next 20yrs.

We don't owe it to him, but why shouldn't he have a role like that? I'm sure he'd do a great job promoting the club and working in the community.

They made him club captain presumably because he has something to offer the club aside from his GK duties. It would be ridiculous to assume that after his retirement there would be no further role for him. Maybe there is, maybe not. This is simply not a matter that any of us here have enough insight to really comment on.

Although he is clearly a great guy we don't owe him anything, we have paid him millions of pounds to be here so he has hardly had a tough life.

We should give him a coaching role if he is a good enough coach, not for any other reason.

In an age where we complain about player loyalty, Kelvin is being dismissed by some on here. Unbelievable.

dismissed by who?

saints have made hima multi millionaire. I do wonder how much he has earned in the last couple of years for hardly playing? how many millions of £££££

he got vastly rewarded for his loyalty and now some want to pay him more thousands per week because he is a good guy to have around?

pay him if he skills are worth it IMO. not because he is a 'laugh'

No people are not saying keep him because he is a good guy. It has been said many times that Kelvin is great with the younger players and is an important figure in the dressing room amongst other good traits. Of course we don't owe him anything but you don't cast aside good people that can benefit the organisation either.

When the margins between success and failure are so slim, and player moods are the most significant element of performance that can't be controlled, a few thousand a week to potentially raise the spirits before a match of a group who cost millions could be the shrewdest investment going.

Not to mention the message it sends about rewarding loyalty if the club don't treat him with respect. Cortese saw some of this loyalty picture and built up his cult with promises of Champions League to a small core of players, but their loyalty seems to have been to him not Saints. At the same time his treatment of the likes of MLT and Benali and the failure to appreciate how their presence could benefit the club said all you needed to know about how well others were treated when they didn't have an immediate tangible benefit to the goals in mind.

With the note worthy exception that he stuck with a club going out of business in the 3rd tier of english football and set to start on -10points rather than jump up 3 divisions (and a similar hike in annual wage and career earnings)... No, we don't owe the man any loyalty at all.

Lets not even mention Leed's away or a crucial penalty save vs Brighton.

and got paid millions of £££ for doing it.. MILLIONS.

I am sure he will stay in some capacity and earn even more large sums of money. I highly doubt it will be because he is a 'laugh' and a 'good lad'...im sure he will have to at least look like earning his money

I'd personally give him a year extension. Stek is going back at the end of the season (so far as we know) and I can't see Gazza staying past this year unless he really improves. Kelvin is obviously content with his role as emergency reserve keeper and I think we could do a lot worse than him.

They gave Gazzaniga a new contract so nothing would suprise me
