Worst refereeing decision 2016/17

Has Tim Robinson, the ref who yesterday booked Luton player Cameron McGeehan for pounding the ground in pain/frustration after having his leg broken by Michael Doyle of Pompey, put himself in pole position for the worst refereeing decision of the season, so far?

Or has one of the preening Premier League posers, like Mike Dean or Mark Clattenburg, come up with a more baffling decision which (scene) steals it for you?

Despite great efforts by Dean and Clattenberg, the worst I've seen this season was Roger East in the Stoke Bournemouth game.

Shawcross chopped someone down from behind as they went into the box and East waved play on.

It was the most blatant penalty you will ever see.

Yes, that one was unbelievable.

A favourite from last season (albeit a lino, not a ref) was this failure to give offside:

In fairness, he doesn't have a clear view or anything.... :mcinnes:

that decision at man city a couple of seasons ago where Silva was about 5 yards offside and the goal stood

That was awful. The problem there was presumably that the linesman didn't see the flick on the pass through (Silva was on from the first pass but it was deflected by a City player, I think). The ref must have seen the deflection though and must have noticed that Silva looked miles offside so should have spoken with the lino.

Pawel Gil - the Polish referee who officiated the home match with Inter. There is a problem, however, as just about every decision he made, or didn't make, for the benefit/disadvantage of both sides was bewildering. Sometimes he blew up for the merest touch, at other times he let what appeared to be full-blooded assault pass by without punishment. Quite how the players from Inter and Saints managed was a mystery.

In sharp contrast was Paolo Tagliavento from Italy who controlled the HBS game superbly.

My award goes to the perennially incompetent Lee Mason and his equally useless linesmen at the Emirates earlier this season !

Having missed a blatant foul on Long, he went on to ignore a head injury to Koscielny who was in any case interfering with play in front of Forster, before giving a penalty against us whilst Giroud was pulling Fonte's shirt !

That is basically 4 mistakes in the space of about a minute and critically in the last moment of the match !

Verging on the corrupt, that one !

Grrrr......
