I remember we started doing it when we signed Hammond and Adkins wanted an outfield captain instead of Davis, but kept the latter as club captain. Jackie@home Posted 22 January, 2017 Share Posted 22 January, 2017 It was some time before that because Franny Benali was club captain, even though he didn't play every game. I think he represented the players off the pitch a lot more, whereas Virgil will be very much captain on the pitch on match days. I can see the club wanting to keep Steve Davis at the club after his playing days. He seems an intelligent chap who has had plenty of captaincy experience at international level and represented the players well at Rangers when it was all falling apart.
