Stand up for Dave at Final

RIP to the guy and sympathy with the family, my old man died of a heart attack out of nowhere and it's a massive shock.

But that campaign/request is oddly selfish.

It's our first Wembley cup final for nearly 40 years, I don't understand why one family suddenly get to try and make it about them.

I know my brothers and me will be thinking about our Dad, he'd have loved to have been there too, and they'll be stories like that all over the stadium.

This is a really odd, mawkish trend which feels really uncomfortable to me.

Agree with much of the sentiment above. RIP to the guy, it's a very sad story...but there is a time and a place for this sort of thing and I don't believe football is it. As someone has mentioned, this is a huge occasion for the club and i'm sure 99% of the fans attending will have someone they will be thinking about who they wish could be there...it's better to let them quietly think about that person in their own way.

The biggest example of how this trend has gone so far that it now seems insincere is that every single team now wears black armbands in almost every game. I'm sure sometimes there isn't even anything to wear them for, they just wear them as part of the uniform now.

I think EVERYONE will have someone on their minds. For me, I wish my Grandad, who played for Saints in 1945/46 was around to see this, as well as a recently lost friend. I think it would be good to have a universal round of applause at a set time, for whoever is on your own mind. If say on 20 minutes, everyone applauded and thought of people that were missing who they'd like to be there, I think that would be more personal and mean a lot. Just my view though.

I said 99% because there are sure to be younger fans there who haven't yet experienced that loss.

I just feel like that kind of tribute is out of place in what is supposed to be a grand event and celebration. There's nothing wrong with people taking a quiet moment and remembering those lost when they want rather than at a prearranged time that forces them to.

... and just try not clapping and see the dagger looks you get - happened to me at Villa a few years back when I was a neutral spectator.

For me football is about losing yourself in the moment and getting relief from real life losses etc.

I like the way we do it with All Saints Day, it has dignity.
