What is your top 10?? (No right or wrong answers....just the music you like most!)

Mine is as follows:

Stone Roses

The Beatles

The Jam

Oasis

The Smiths

The Clash

The Who

Joy Division

Rolling Stones

Queen

I tried to put them in some sort of order but it would probably change every time! I also feel bad about leaving out so many "big names" and probably could have done a top 50!!

OK' date=' Pavement then.[/quote']

Try again.

Can't be bothered to list my 10 but Carter USM was a good call - would've been top of my list nearly 20 years ago (Christ!!)

Spend most of my time listening to American bands these days - much more varied and interesting music than the ****e we get served up here by the idiots in the British music press.

It's too hard. I can't do it without the fear of offending myself.

Now if it was a top 50, no problem.Good thread though.

Not sure I could do a top 50 either. 5 minutes after I'd settled on a top 50, another band would pop into my head and I'd be sent into a quandary again. It's all mood dependent anyway.

The Kinks

Very good call, few bands are so gloriously British. Their influence on our punk/new wave/indie/break-core has been immense.

Sad but true, the current scene is pretty dire. All the interesting stuff formally known as indie is coming out of the US. I just can't see a British band this year offering anything nearly as inventive and beautifully weird as the latest Animal Collective album.

And whilst I admit the brits has never been a celebration of forward thinking, 09 is undoubtedly the year BEIGE ROCK BLOWS UP IN ALL OF OUT SH1T. :(

weller, duffy, elbow. its not just the economy that's phucked

I agree with you that most british music is pretty gash at the moment, but leave these guys out of it! They really are a class act, and some fans seem to be falling out of love with them because of their (well deserved) recent recognition. Listen to 'The Bones Of You' and 'Asleep In The Back' and tell me that Elbow can be grouped with the likes of Duffy.

Top Ten? Well shiiii.... lets give it a go, just for you Scotty.

1. The Wildhearts (Pancake in shocker there)

2. The Beatles

3. The Rolling Stones

4. Iron Maiden

5. Led Zeppelin

6. The Clash

7. Cream

8. The Cure

9. Pink Floyd

10. Queen

I really wanted to say Primal Scream, but they have a bout a 50% good song/bad song ratio.

Again in no particular order,

The Jam

Stone Roses

Smiths

Small Faces

Rolling Stones

Beatles

Cure

Elvis Costello & The attractions

Genesis (yeah uncool choice but I loved the earlier stuff)

Radiohead (only for The bends)

Inspiral Carpets

Thank god we didn't have to include solo artists although I've just realised I've put 11 down...and I can't be bothered to get rid of one.....maybe radiohead or possibly the beatles.

No one mentioned Depeche Mode

New single & album out in April & at the O2 in may

New single was premiered at some award ceremony in Berlin on Saturday.

Absolute quality

Totally agree Warsash, great band and totally underrated. There will be bands stating Depeche Mode as their influence for years to come, especially in the next few years.

The new single is great, back to the more barbed sound that I like with Depeche Mode. I doubt they'll ever beat 'Music for the Masses' but if 'Wrong' is an indiator for SOTU then i'm going to be very impressed.
