securing memory stick

A memory stick probably isn't the best choice of medium for backing up data - an external hard drive would make a better choice as they are not as volatile. Memory Sticks have limited read/write cycles so they can soon become unusable if you are writing a lot of data to it and/or copying it back off. IF you want a secure USB stick then best bet is to either buy one that has encryption built in - more costly but more secure, or use something like FreeOTFE which performs on the fly encryption. http://www.freeotfe.org/

You can also use TrueCrypt to perform the same task. I would use one of these even if you backup to HDD, DVD etc
