Its now known as the Centre For The 3rd Age which is PC speak for the Darby and Joan club, as it provides services and activities for the elderly.

I am referring to the one in Bevois Valley.

I thought you were, all along. Never used it much. Onc or twice we went down to the TV lounge and watched a late film, IIRC.

Once you joined, you were a life member. (Not even a £5 annual charge ). In the early 80's the restaurant was very good. Then the owner of the Chinky, which I think was called "The Friendly" across the road is alleged to have won 1/2 of the place at the table and it changed its menu!

Not absolutely sure, but I think it closed about 93/94 when the then owners took it down to Leisure World and then sold out to Grosvenor.

Always remember back in the late 70's going to the Silhouette Club Casino after getting inebriated in the nightclub downstairs, was great if you needed toasted sarnie free of charge.

This was a time when Southampton's red light district was rife compared to today - you'd get prostitutes waiting outside for lucky punters who wanted to celebrate with a ****

That was probably The Manzil, which is still there. The Cottage is in the opposite direction, on the way to St Marys.

Tiberius Bevois Vallay, happy days indeed. Downstairs for Mah Jong, entrance level for roulette and upstairs for telly and shady goings on. Then down the Manzil for a curry at 3am. All that and living in Cranbury Avenue too - great days.
