Tube driver gets 44k starting salary.

Working boxing day they get 165 quid.

But they are going on strike as they want 496 for working on boxing day.

SACK ALL STRIKING DRIVERS

Oh and i cant get to Charlton now, ******s

To be fair to the Unions, it can't be down to them as disputes are never about pay.

There must be a health and safety reason somewhere as their primary concern is the safety of passengers

The management of LUL decided, unilaterally, that Boxing Day would be paid as a normal day, against all agreements. The tube drivers are, naturally, very angry. Why should they get paid standard rate for working at a time that they should be at home with their families. The rail network is closed on Boxing Day, so why not the tube?

Oh yes, I know. Because the retail sector want to be able to sell as much as they can on the first day of the sales, so they need customers, and f*** Johnny Worker, he can put up or shut up.

Can I put in for quadruple time for working Xmas day this year??? When I "should" be at home??

Hey J, when you signed up, did you know that every day was the same as any other day, pay wise? I guess so. However, when these tube drivers signed their contracts, they were told that bank holiday pay would be paid at a premium. Basically for the management to change things like this is breach of contract, plain and simple. I.e. Illegal...

I used to get treble time and a day off for working Xmas Day and the same for new year. Just treble time for boxing day, shouldnt a family sit down together over the Xmas break? Or get hansomely recompensed for not doing so?

It's all wrapped up in their 44k STARTING salary. You know, the ones they got when they joined, the ones that are included in the contract they got when they joined, the same contract that they signed knowing full well the conditions and accepting them.

They want 500 quid to work on boxing day for pressing a few buttons, maybe even pull the odd lever.

F 0oking sack the greedy bullies.

As it happens, it looks like it shouldnt cause to much disruption (Some of them obviously have a work ethic) so those that strike can stay at home with thier families....... just minus 165 quid.... and i hope, i really really really hope they get sacked when they come back.

These bloomin' jumped up train drivers! How dare they strike and potentially ruin some people getting to a football game. These lot are worse than the students, who think that they should be educated for free! What is wrong with society? Why does everyone think they should get something for nothing?

One of the most impressive features of our zoological specimen loungers is their sense of proportion. What more balanced argument could there be than that hundreds of men and women should lose their jobs because one bloke can't get to a game of football in the way he considers the most convenient? Try as I might, I can't fault the logic.

Funny how you won't look at the tube drivers as the greedy ones...

Odd that

I failed to appreciate the magnitude of Gemmels influence. Strewth, if i'd known he was so powerful i wouldn't have immediately lost my sense of proportion or balance when i first saw the title of the thread, as I was predetermined to do in the Verbal Universe. Gemmel, you need to calm down mate, cause and effect and all that.

Boxing Day is not a bank holiday, therefore they should get normal pay for a Sunday. No doubt they will be getting extra on 27th December which is a bank holiday.

As an aside, I wonder how many of the tube drivers who are working over Christmas are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, etc etc? They of course will be exploiting the situation.

As for £44k as a starting salary - not bad!

EDIT - reading the link there is no special pay for bank holidays.

DSM just making stuff up, they were never told that they would get bank holidays at a premium, they signed up for a flat rate on enhanced salaries.....negociated by guess who..... Oh yes the union..... but they dont like it now, they want some more.

Nothing illegal DSM is just lying.

Tube bosses maintain that bank holiday working is covered by a long-standing existing agreement. Drivers get enhanced pay - up to £45,000 a year - but this includes flat-rate working including bank holidays without extra.

Aslef maintains that the network has become so much busier and train services far more frequent that the original agreement must be renegotiated.

Mr Grant said: "There is a huge difference in the work we do now than years back when this agreement was reached.

Ah, I see why you're 'special' now. Never mind. You'll wake up in the middle of the night and suddenly see the simple logic of my earlier post. When you do, let me know and I'll send you a welcome pack to Verbal's Universe. It's very nice in here.

As I am sure you worked out the "Not getting to Football" is nothing more than a distraction (Plus it turns out most tubes will be running), it is the principals of all of this.

They signed a contract on an enhanced salary for a flat rate across the board. That enhanced salary is very generous for what the job actually is and when compared to emergency services, armed forces etc etc, is incredible. However in the worst econmic downturn of our life times (Well most of us) the unions have decided that they dont want to stick with what they previously negociated, they want more and some.

In order to try and bully and pressure their employers, they have chosen to do it on a key day, with complete disregard to the public they are paid to serve.

It's a total disgrace and given the number of people who would welcome that sort of work and that sort of money, they should be rewarded with the sack and their jos given to those willing to do it on the terms of the existing contracts.

There was an interesting interview in the Guardian the other day with Bob Crowe. He sees that his job is to get the best deal he can for his members. From this point of view he is an undoubted success. However, despite his £100k+ a year salary he thinks of himself as a marxist who cares about "the working class" but can't see how his unions actions cause massive disruption to millions of ordinary workers.

In my view he is actually a very effective capitalist. He abuses the monopoly position of his drivers in a vital industry to extract the maximum return to his members - no matter the cost to anyone else.

Try this. Instead of criticising them, stand back and applaud loudly. Without our obnoxious unions driving up wage levels, we'd slip back into being some kind of proto-East european low-wage, low-economic-activity dust bowl of an economy. The paradox of aggressive unions - and unions in general - is that we all benefit. It may not seem that way, but we do.

If the bankers went on strike for for money... Would you stand back and applaud them??

Ignore him Pancok. DSM has been proven to be a liar and a cheat. He tried to make the London Underground bosses back down by threatening them with legal things, claiming this and that, but after a little checking he has been rumbled. The cheating leftie can't even fabricate a simple story.

The way I see it is that 80% of the people in this country are officially Christian, but a tiny fraction, maybe 1% of those people, actually take it seriously and worship. So the question shouldn't be how much extra these lazy train drivers get on Boxing Day, but why aren't they working Christmas day, at normal rates - clearly most of them are not religious (judging by national figures) and given that 75% of London is made up up foreigners, most of these drivers aee cleraly not christian and probably don't have family over here anyway that they would spend christmas day with.

I hold the bankers and the London underground drivers equally responsible for the financial mess the world finds itself in. In fact, I probably blame the underground drivers more. Socialist tw*ts.

Why do you always go back to what you do for a living as a benchmark for everyone else. You chose to go into the services, and you all do a magnificent job. But why continually side against working people when they are in dispute with their employer. You are a little myopic and seem happy to criticise when not armed with all the facts and your argument always seems to be in context with your own unique career in the services.

For the person moaning about the salary of the tube drivers, it's all relative. I'll bet the management are on high salaries relative to their drivers, and they no doubt do not have to wrk Boxing Day at all.

My employers chose to open on Boxing Day. We all had to work as normal apart from all the management had the day off. The MD put a token half hour appearance to give the impression that he was working and made sure everyone saw him. Then he 'd get in his car and spend the rest of the day with his family, f*cking hypocritical c*nt. We eventually agreed with a more enlightened management to once again stop work on Boxing Day.

FWIW I don't think anything should open on Boxing Day, and people should be able to spend this time with their families. This has been imposed on tube drivers, and is not in their working agreements. It really annoys me that people are prepared to get up early on Boxing Day morning to hit the sales. C*nts the lot of them.

You were quite vociferous about the firemen not changing their working hours. It's a shame that you didn't apply your argument here to then.

F*ck me, if you had your way we'd go back to industrial relations in the Victorian times. You strike me as a bit of a cap doffer.

Do you really think that? How does the RMT negotiating a better deal of its workers make anyone else better off? Tube strikes cost unsalaried workers that don't get to work on time and the higher salarise of tube staff are passed on to consumers i.e. other workers.
