Too rich to pay council tax.

Its easy if you're a large company or a wealthy individual to arrange your affairs to avoid paying tax totally. Shell companies registered in the Virgin Islands or Caymans and overseas bank accounts make liability impossible to trace. Other UK companies like Boots who earn most of their profits supplying the NHS have their HQ rergistered in Geneva to benefit from artificially low tax rates. Google and Dell do the same in Ireland.

I know there are all kinds of apologists here who think its alright to avoid the tax (even though they end up paying more because it) - but to see the majority of owners of multi million pound apartments in a flagship Hyde park block not paying, just seems really cheap and small time to me.

My Uncle refused to pau his council tax when the tories introduced it (him being a strong labour followed/supporter) he owes thousands but has never been pursued for a penny of it.

Nope, lived in Southampton at the time and now in Chandlers Ford and believe me he could well afford it, just stood his ground!

I hope he refused all council services, didn't use the libraries, emptied his own bins, etc.

Indeed, and The Guardian ought to know a thing or two about using offshore arrangements to avoid tax.

I pay what the council rates my big house at, fools. ;-)

My 2 bed bungalow was rated 1 band below Buckingham palace!

I challenged it and got reduced to band E. the previous owner got 10 years difference refunded.

Whilst I admit it is a nice bungalow no way should it be 1 band below top. I don't have a garage, conservatory, swimming pool,

Just 6 rooms.
