USA Saints

Never mind all that fancy ale stuff - I think a couple of cases of Milwaukee Best are in order for this weekend. Will Ferrell drinks it on the roof tops of Terre Haute, IN so it must be good:

At around $16 for 30 cans you can't go wrong. Can you?

I'm finally not traveling this weekend, Edmonton, Ottawa, Los Angeles and Orlando trips out the way but sadly no televised Saints game to take in. I've been coping by listening to Sky Sports Radio on my phone via TunedIn app and reading twitter/match commentaries online when on the road, and watching highlights/goals on the Football League App. The 7 from 9 pts has helped.

Looking forward to a make or break March, 8 games, 3 at home and only 15 total games before we know if we're back in the land of televised games on a regular basis, and testing ourselves back where we belong.

How are you folk?

Great news! I might have to hunt down some Milwaukee Best for that one...

Good man.

Not sure what I'm gonna get in for the game. Gonna have to be something fairly quaffable. That said I may get in a couple of bottles of wine - one white & one red. That has gotta be a lucky combination.

Saints are actually favs to win at Leeds. It must have been a long time ago (if ever?) that the bookies thought that.

Anyone else in the USA use bodog? I have a few sneaky bets on there - but nothing too major in case it suddenly shuts down. It doesn't usually let you do accums on the football (or 'parlays' as they call them here). That sucks but it is better than nothing. It also didn't have outright odds on the Championship - which double sucks cos I'd have def had a bit of the 14/1 that was around at the start of the season...

Negative on the betting. It's so vaguely illegal here that I only do it when I'm in an actual casino. But thanks for the heads up on the game. I plan to watch it on my couch, which is always wonderful. Any NYC Saints are welcome to join me.

MLS season starts this weekend. Anyone got into that much? It's a bit hard here as the nearest teams are Fire & Crew but both are nearly 200 miles away. With my Colorado connections I'm a sly Rapids fan as well. I've got pics of me at both the Rapids & Crew grounds so that makes me pretty diehard.

Anyway - I wouldn't mind doing a fantasy team this year. Anyone got one on the go?

I presume http://fantasy.mlssoccer.com/ is a good-a place as any to pick a team?

I have trouble with the MLS. Being from Ohio I feel like I "should" be a Crew fan. Having lived in DC I might be a DC United fan. Now I'm in NYC and even go to the occasional RedBulls game, but for whatever reason NONE of them really tug at my heartstrings. I'd like to be a Portland Timbers fan because they do seem pretty amazing, but I've just got nothing. It's like an empty hole in my soul waiting to be filled by the right team.

I forgot - I like Portland Timbers as well because their fans sing 'Take 'em All' by C#ck Sparrer. Freaked me out the first time I heard them doing this. Not sure if it's a totally original chant but I've only ever heard them sing it. So that is 4 teams I've now got.

I agree with what you are saying. Plus I always say this about all sport - you have to care who wins to really enjoy it. Hell, I enjoy watching the local college basketball team on TV more than watching a lot of football matches (despite liking football a lot more...)

I began to follow the Redbulls in the past couple of seasons, got out to four or five games but lost interest and patience last season. Pre-season games were fun with Man city and Spurs. Will be intrigued to see what happens with Tim Ream at Bolton having watched him start as an impressive young centerback with the Redbulls and decline over the past 18 months.

Just watching Seattle v Santos in the CONCACAF Champions League & Seattle are singing 'Take 'em All'. Swore it was Portland who sung that. They probably both do. Who knows...

Both this game and the early one (Toronto v LA) have had great atmospheres. Good to see most of the crowd stood up with no stewards hassling them.

Anyway - just knocked up a MLS fantasy team on http://games.espn.go.com/fc-manager-mls/en/frontpage - took about 5 mins. Simple. Extra simple because although you have a budget you can pick all your team from top-ish valued players and still be under it.

If Indy ever does get a MLS team they can try and lure all the fickle, gormless, plastic and clueless ex-Colts fans that are now around. They don't know any other Colts players apart from Manning - so are now 'done with them'.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scores?cc=5901

For anyone in the USA I find the above link very handy. It is a fixtures list in ET and includes all major leagues from around the world. English games are always near the top. As games start it updates them live including a minute counter next to the game.

I always used to use the BBC fixture list. Very glad they screwed that one up cos this one is much better.

Truckasaurus - who the hell are you then? I can narrow it down to a handful of people but ain't 100% sure. W#nker!

Yeah, I live on a mixture of the BBC website and the ESPN website. Neither are perfect and they each have their strengths and weaknesses. For Saints games that I have to use the "gamecast" feature, ESPN's updates faster than BBC's and it also has more detail. So I usually use that. But I make sure I have them both open.

I've been using live.skysports.com/ScoreCentre/live.html for a couple of years and am utterly enamored with it for British sport; it allows you to chose games to follow and will play an alert when a goal is scored or when the final whistle blows. Live text commentary and a live table are really handy particularly on busy gamedays e.g. Saturdays.

On mobile its the ESPN scorecenter, any sport and teams I chose to follow are updated live and Football League app offers live text commentary.

I like the Sky Score Centre but the ESPN one I linked to above updates faster (I've done some scientific experiments here). Plus you get all the games from all the leagues on one screen. You don't have to choose your fav games etc. ESPN has live txt and live tables. The biggest plus on ESPN are the minute counters next to each game. You can easily see how long is left.

Plus I quite like being able to easily see how Liga Profesional Boliviana is going. A team calling Blooming are currently top of the league. Another team called (and I ain't making this up) 'The Strongest' are currently 3rd from bottom. What great team names.

Got to wait til 11am for the SFC game on Sat. It's always strange when you get these couple of weeks where USA clocks have changed - but UK ones ain't.

Truckasaurus - I've still got no idea who you are... The clue wasn't too good. Got any more?

What the hell has happened to Sky Sports News at 7pm ET on FSP? It ain't on then anymore. Just as Saints were getting more coverage they've moved it til the middle of the day/night. That's outrageous I tell ya...

This has really ****ed me off Rut. They changed the schedules several weeks ago and I Hope if switches back when the season starts. Was also getting used to having Sky News every day, binned that an' all.

Plus FSP seems to have swapped the Championship for the Scottish Prem. I can't see any Championship games listed yet (and last year our first game - v Leeds - was on TV here) - best make sure we don't get relegated ever again then!

Man City live on FSC. Wigan is currently showing as being on at 4.30pm ET on FSC so a 6.5 hour delay. We will get a few of these delayed games but they always get shown on the Sat afternoon. 6.5 hours is as long as it gets I think. Usually it ain't this long to wait. Better than some of the 30 hour delays we had last season!
