Can a petrol head be an eco-driver?

I tend to be a bit half and half, depending on my mood at the time!

I actually partake of the 'how high can you get the mpg on the computer' game on my trip up and down the A34 each weekend, trying to hold it over 40mpg for as long as possible. My hard work is then undone as the second half of the same game is to zero the econometer and then try and get the mpg constant below 10mpg from the A34 through the sticks and back to my home 12 miles away.
