Thanks for updates steve. I'm sorry to hear times is hard. If you need to increase subscription fees that's ok with me I'm a very wealthy bear. I could easily afford to pay an extra £1.00 or even £1.50 with hardly any hardship at all!

Ditch the skimwords tho. They is gay!

I take it back actually these skimwords is actually good fun! What I've been doing is every time I see a skimword I have to click on it and buy it no matter what it is! So far I've got book bout dogs, Boca Juniors Sun Hat, Best of Jean Claude Van Damme soundtrack and pair of skater style trainers! I also just bought a new phone!

I was disappointed to miss out on signed Frank Lampard shirt and Paulo DiCanio photo tho cos these items was sold out!

I'll let Baj field that one

I've made the point before, but I think they are horrible for a number of reasons. This is pretty much the only forum I visit regularly. I'm not one of these nobbers who moan about spending a fiver. Think the value proposition is alright. Fiver = no ads + full functionality. I understand the concerns regarding paywalls elsewhere, but let's face it - you ain't the Murdoch empire and bandwidth ain't free.

That said, I don't like the idea of my posts being analysed and marked up with sales tags, especially 'cos I post a lot of links and a fair portion of my opinions are about pointing out the evils of unbridled commercialism.

When it comes down to it, skim words is the practice of making money off user generated content. I'm not saying a brother can't earn, but damn dudes, use a bit of true invention rather than underhand misrepresenting tactics. Really is a deal breaker.

Have to say, this part did make me laugh though

skim words is the practice of making money off user generated content.

If we didnt generate revenue from the content in the form of subs and advertising, the website couldnt exist!

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear.

I don't like being used as a salesman. I don't want any weight that people may have attached to my opinion to be used to sell goods.

I paid the £5 subscription to be free of advertisements. I don't expect to become one.

To be fair to you, I've seen this practice used on other sites - but it renders each and every one of them the Internet equivalent of a Home and Bargain. It's low-rent and it's cheap.

Suppose it depends on the priorities, Baj. What are you here to do? Serve Saints fans or make money?

And to make myself clear, skimlinks was running as a test, its now been removed.

Skimlinks being seen by subscribers was my oversight and I apologise for it. Monetising our non-subscribing users is a matter of necessity, not choice

Big Macs? What's going on? I leave the forum for a couple of weeks and when I get back the mods have fallen form the glory or curry to the lows of American junk food. Bearsy, I trusted you to run this place in my absence and look what has happened! Bad bear, very bad bear.
