THE DEMO IS NOW LIVE

The Vanilla demo, which is approx 175MB, will be available for PC or Mac, and available exclusively from the News of the Worlds website, with the files hosted by the nice people at Gameshadow.

It will feature UK English only, language wise, and English and Scottish quickstarts, with no "assets" (such as player pictures, logos, stadiums and pitch textures). You can play for half a season, and continue your saved game when the full game is out.

You can get the vanilla version of the demo (PC or Mac) from http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk

The Strawberry demo, which is approx 1GB, will also be available for PC or Mac, and will be available 3 ways via STEAM (our recommended route - but PC only), a torrent file, and a direct download (hosted by the nice people at Gameshadow).

To download the STEAM client, for free, go to http://www.steampowered.com, where you can read all about STEAM.

Language wise it has - English, Danish, Dutch, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish.

Leagues playable (via quickstarts) - England, Scotland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina & Indonesia. So 12, rather than the previously announced 10.

The strawberry version of the demo is available from

STEAM (PC Only) - http://store.steampowered.com/app/10570/

The youngsters in the reserves I would consider loaning out. Try and keep hold of Lallana and Schneiderlin for as long as possible as they are the best players in terms of potential. Buy Gasmi for his agreed price of 800k at end of season.

What do you think of the expanded favoured personnal/icons/legends I did to give Southampton abit more depth?

I only do the Southampton data, you'd have to ask the relevant researchers on the SI forums.

As for Lallana, he has very good stats for his age and experience on the game. Also very high potential which is reflected in the game.

Surely there should be consistency across the board? There's not. :\

I think there is. We all work to guidlines about how good a squad can be and thus hard to over/under rate teams. As for individual players remember it is down to personal opinion also for non Saints players the researcher for the teams sees them play alot more than you as they are likely to be season ticket holders.

What do you think about my data club/players in general good/bad points?

I have a Watford season ticket tbh, I'm pretty qualified to say that O'Toole and Eustace are woeful. And that Lallana's stats should be much better, esp. in comparison to those two clowns.

Your data seems consistent, but our players are underrated, they seem almost the same stats-wise as last season, but they're such that they won't be able to compete, which we sort of can.

i like the 3d match aspect, it gives a real feel for what is going on.

I can apreciate that our "boys" stats will improve, but i would say that Schneiderlin and james can hit a cracking long pass and perhaps should have better passing scores.

I note that our bank balance in the demo might be a little optomistic at + £2 million... :p

Have got loads of injuries, hopefully this is a bug and will be fixed.

Overall i would say the game looks promising as ever, you've done a cracking job MLG. Well done and thanks for representing us!! :D

Oh dear. It's finally happened. The first FM title which I haven't liked. It seems that they've just changed the colours around for the usual gameplay from FM08, which is fine as that interface is easy to use and I know it. But the match play interface is ghastly. For a start, the 3D engine is crap. It's jerky, the quality is poor and it makes my whole computer run slowly (although the last one may be down to my PC). The 'TV View' and 'Classic View' system doesn't work.

The TV View system leaves you unable to monitor anything but an empty pitch between highlights unless you exit, and by that time another highlight will have popped up. Fine, i'll use the Classic View. Oh wait, I can't see what the hell is going on! The screen on the Classic View is absolutely tiny, I can barely read the player's names, let alone see what's going on. Also, on the tactics screen you cannot tell players to run any further than the next position along (e.g DL to WBL), which isn't so great for me because I use an attacking wing-back system, so now that doesn't work.

However, the game in itself is fine, it's just the 'new features' that I loathe. MLG, you've done a great job with the team, although I think that Lallana's stats need to be boosted a bit, what is his potential? It may have to be a case of waiting, but he ought to be a lot better than that. Now my anger has been unleashed, i'd just like to add that i'll stick to FM08 thanks.

SuperMikey,

When in TV view you can see things like match stats, player ratings, formations etc by using the match day info button in the top right corner. You can then move these panels around the screen and don't have to leave the match pitch or any action.

As for Lallana, he has very good potential on the game and will become over time an amazing player.

Downloading now, but have to go to work in half an hour so won't get to play it until half past 2.

Sounds like SI have f*cked up on this one though. The 3D match engine was obviously a little too optimistic. I don't have any problem with players having bad stats - that IS realistic, and it creates more of a challenge to get some better players in and utilise the ones you have effectively.

Cannot launch the FM Gold Demo?

1. I'm getting a message which says: "Failed to setup graphics system"

Please see the following thread for further details:

http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=54801

2. The game freezes when I select 'Submit Team' or try to 'Continue' the game when in a match.

Potential workaround:

- Run the game in Windowed Mode or a lower resolution

To do this:

- Go to the Preferences screen ('Options' -> 'Preferences').

- Go to the 'Display & Sound' section.

- Under 'Display Mode' select "Windowed" and confirm your changes.

Status:

- We are currently collating information from users about this problem so that we can investigate this further.

3. I'm getting a message that says: "The application failed to intialize correctly (0xc0150002)"

Potential workaround:

- Install the .NET Framework Version 2.0 re-distributable package from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Status:

We are still investigating the cause of this issue, but some users have reported solving it by installing the package above.

4. I'm getting a message that says: "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_37.dll was not found."

Potential workaround:

- Install the Microsoft DirectX re-distributable package from here:

- Web Installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

- Full re-distributable: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

5. I am having problems getting the demo to run on the Mac

Potential Workaround

- If you are using a non-standard zip program on the Mac it may be causing a problem.

- Uninstall what you have and delete the following directories if they still exist (by right-clicking on them and selecting 'Move To Trash'):

\\Applications\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009

\\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009

\\\Library\Caches\Sports Interactive

\\\Library\Caches\Preferences\Sports Interactive

\\This will ensure there are no files relating to the demo left on your hardrive.

On Mac OSX 10.5:

- Unzip the "Setup FM2009 Demo.zip" package by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Open With' -> 'Archive Utility'.

On MacOX 10.4:

- Unzip the "Setup FM2009 Demo.zip" package by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Open With' -> 'BOMArchiveHelper'.

Installer issues

1. I'm geting a message that says: "The installer cannot run on your configuration. It will now quit."

Potential workaround:

- Open the downloaded "Setup FM2009 Demo.exe" in a compression utility such as WinZip, WinRAR, 7-Zip or similar.

- Extract the contents to a folder on your computer (e.g. create a folder named "FM2009 Demo" on your desktop and extract to this).

- If you have any of the above installed, they also usually let you right-click the exe and choose 'Extract'.

- Make sure you preserver the folder structure when extracting (most of them should do by default).

- Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder where you extracted the demo contents.

- Go into the folder named "Windows" (You're now in something like C:\Users\myuser\Desktop\FM2009 Demo\Windows\).

- Right click the file "Setup FM2009 Demo.exe" and click "Properties".

- Click on the tab named "Compatibility".

- Click the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for"

- From the drop-down choose "Windows XP".

- Click "OK" to close the "Properties" dialog.

- Now try to run "Setup FM2009 Demo.exe" from the "Windows" folder where you extracted the demo.

Status:

There are some compatibility issues with the installer we use for the game and the Windows XP 64-bit operating system.

Other issues

1. The game's keyboard is too responsive and overly sensitive making typing difficult.

- This appears to be a problem on some machines, but not all.

Status:

- This issue will be fixed for the patch.

2. I am experiencing a high volume of injuries when playing the demo

- Some users are suggesting there are too many injuries occurring.

Status:

We will be comparing the injuries statistics with the latest data we have from physioroom.com and if we find there's an imbalance we will address this for the patch.

3. Commentary shows goal is scored before ball crosses the line.

- Sometimes the commentary bar flashes showing a goal before the ball crosses the line.

Status:

- This issue will be fixed for the patch.

4. I'm getting a message that says: "Direct Sound error -2004287480" when entering a match.

Potential workaround:

- Update your sound card drivers or disable in game sound.

- To disable sound:

- Go to the Preferences screen ('Options') -> 'Preferences').

- Go to the 'Display & Sound' section.

- In the 'Sound Settings' area, deselect 'Play Sounds' and confirm your changes.

5. The mouse cursor's left-click behaves as a right-click once I've used CTRL+click on my Mac trackpad.

Potential workaround:

- Use an external mouse with left and right mouse buttons.

Status:

- This issue will be fixed for the patch.

How To Guides

1. How to update your Java

The installer we use makes use of Java and therefore it's important to ensure you have the latest version, particularly if you are experiencing problems during the installation process.

You can download the latest version here:

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

2. How to find out your DXDIAG information

You may see us asking for your DXDIAG information. DXDIAG provides us with information about your machine so that we can identify what operating system version you are running as well as what type of graphics card you use amongst other things.

Using this information we can find out whether your system meets the minimum specifications as well as checking to see what drivers you have installed, which may help us diagnose your issue.

- Click Start menu, choose Run

- Type 'dxdiag' without the quotes and press enter

- Once it has completed and DX Diag is showing, click "Save all information"

- Save the text file (e.g. to your desktop)

- Quit dxdiag, open the saved file in Notepad

- Go to the "Edit" menu and choose "Select all"

- Then go to the "Edit" menu again and choose "Copy"

- Provide this information in the thread you posted in where it was requested by pasting the contents in the post (press the "Ctrl" key and "V", or choose "paste" from the "Edit" menu in your browser)

This is my main problem. Found that having done some "right-clicking" by using Ctrl+click to pick my team, I was then completely unable to click continue, so gave up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... when are Sports Interactive going to actually go through a proper and thorough testing cycle? Even a basic testing cycle would have found the vast majority of these issues, and I'm sure they didn't release the demo knowing that there were such fundamental errors within the code.

They cannot afford to rely on the goodwill of the community of users for much longer as they will simply, like me, get fed up with doing their job for them.

At the moment, I won't be buying FM09.
