Here is a question for you...

If you were aware of a car that had been abandoned for at least a week and also knew that the owners had left the country (and the car) behind for ever, could you help yourself to the car / parts.

 

If not, how could you legally go about helping yourself, would you have to go to the police, DVLA, CAB etc etc...

 

Can anyone shed some light on the situation,

Apply for the logbook from the DVLA, they will contact the previous owners. If they can't be contacted (can't remember how long, I think its 4-6 weeks), then you'll be issued with a V5 in your name.

 

Thats assuming the local friendly scrap metal merchant doesn't spot it as abandoned and lifts it away first....

No absolutely not, morally. For once I agree with stevo. Even thinking about it is pure 100% gyppo behaviour. You should be ashamed of yourself and have your benefits cut.

 

On another note, I am disappointed to see that saint_clark has managed to save £5 so quickly.
