Ski conditions

In Bansko now 70cm of powder today with more to come tonight. off piste today has been amazing, 14 of us up early tomorrow for 1st tracks. Just spoken to one of the lifties and there could be a metre of powder up top

I am in Andorra next week (school trip,freebies can't be choosers), they are having an excellent season.

Arcalis (which is an excellent 'unknown' resort) is currently skiing on 'fresh snow' with 20-30cm to come over the weekend, bring it on!

This is where i'm off in two weeks. Normally a bit dodgy as its quite low altitude but looking good at the moment.

Went to La Thuile today and there was fresh powder on the Italian side, but I kept on going over to La Rosiere in France as I'd had a glance at the webcams last night. WOW! Think a guy on the lift said they'd had metres (plural) but it was superb. Light and so easy to ski off-piste, blue skies, and reasonable avalanche danger too. My smiling muscles were given a big work-out by my massive grin and my legs felt it too as I just didn't stop: nearly caught an edge on the way home due to tiredness and the strangeness of being on piste!

Anybody got any recommendations for sledging / tobaganning courses which will still be good late March / early April? looking for some fun long 1km+ course with lifts and not too much walking suitable for kids aged 8 and 10. Probably not Switzerland as its usually too dear.

Hinterglemm (Austria) seemed to have a really long sledging track; chairlift up and we often saw the sledgers bombing down their course. It cut over the piste once or twice but was otherwise its own. Austria is typically good until March/early April, and the skiing is good too (twinned with Saalbach).

The best sledging track I've been on was when I lived in Oslo. It's called korketrekkeren (the corkscrew) and was originally a bobsleigh/luge run, but is now used for sledging. You take the train to the top, rent a sled and then bomb down the track, there's another station at the bottom, so off you go again. the train's public transport so costs very little for a whole day. You get up so much speed that taking one bend, my arm brushed the side, which was ice, and the friction actually burned a hole in my sleeve, burned, not tore. The sledges are the sort where you lie completely flat on your back with just your head poking up to see where you're going and pull on two ropes to bend the runners. It doesn't feel safe and probably isn't, but it's quite a rush.

Lovely conditions here now, loads of fresh powder, and I'm stuck here with ill kids.

We are in Big White now and the snow is wonderful. 216cm base. Champagne powder. Just off night skiing now.

Andorra is fantastic, reds and blacks are unpisted and skiing on 20-30cm powder, plus unlimited off piste and tree skiing if you like that sort of thing. It snowed all night last night, sunny and ridiculously warm today (must have been 0 to -2 and no wind), snowing hard again this evening, so same again tomorrow.

Ridiculously busy today, snow and sun and weekend = carnage, hopefully quieter tomorrow.

This place is sledging specialised but you may be struggling for much decent snow if you leave it too late.

Just finishing a week in Zell am See. Good snow but not much sun. Absolutely packed though as half term everywhere in the Western Hemisphere.

Great fun and even late season just about snow sure BUT .... late Mar / Early april is Easter and Val Thorens doesn't come cheap!!!

It is a quality resort, Europes highest Pub Frog and Roast Beef or something like that, several bars that show Prem football and gillette sports saturday (or what ever its called) with MLT. A few doors down from The Frog we found the Viking Bar (managed by a Bradford fan at the time) very good for the footie.

Skiing wise it is in The 3 Valleys Ski Area - which includes Courcheval, Meribel and many other areas.
